Re: Facebook vs Twitter
I can't get along with Fb. I don't really understand it, who can read anything I put on it, which are the private bits and it just seems a real jumble. In consequence I am an infrequent visitor and never put anything on there I don't worry about the world seeing. As for Twitter I have avoided it as I really don't understand that at all.
I was taught to be cautious

Re: Facebook vs Twitter
FB is not too bad once you set up the privacy filters properly, then only your friends can see what your timeline says no body else can

Re: Facebook vs Twitter
I just limp along on facebook, not sure what I'm doing, and why is it my friends facebook updates only get e-mailed to me days after the event and too late to be of interest.

Hi Tinker,
I'm none to good at finding my way round things like face book etc..My daughter did set up a Face book account but I dare not use it, especially after the indecent with my best mate as some on this forum may recall. But just for you (Hoping that you are broad minded) My best mate is quite religious... church every Sunday kind of chap. Anyway to cut a long story short he kept me on his religious emailing list therefore I kept getting all this Jesus loves you religious stuff which can be a bit annoying especially as he knows I'm a born again atheist. Anyhow I was sat at my computer one day and another one of his messages popped up...so....I wrote back to him and said...
'Hi Shag,...you know how much I love you but would you please stop sending me all this F..... religious stuff...I pressed send and off it went.....Unfortunately it also went to all his friends including a Catholic Bishop not to mention his sons and daughters...Oop's... two minutes latter I got an email back from one of his daughters...with the message... nice one uncle Keith!
Oh Sh*t
Good job he loves me too don't you think
Regards
Keith

Neither for me too
although I do recognise that Facecloth has its good points, albeit security is not one of them.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

The twatteratti are always good for a laugh as they get all hyper over nothing.
As part of my course we have been using both Twitter and Facebook for social experimentation. I remember the first one was to see how quick you could get a stranger to send you a message on Facebook without you asking for it. I thought I had done well when I managed to get my monkey to respond within an hour but the winner managed to get theirs to respond in a matter of minutes ... I guess it just depends on who is online at the time.

Re: Facebook vs Twitter
I use both FB and Twitter (okay so I must be a twit
) for different purposes.
I use FB to keep in touch with friends and indeed through it have been reunited with long lost friends from many years ago. I agree, however, with Moby and Ken that its security is a joke, so I take a number of precautions. First I am careful to limit the personal information I put on it. My address is vague, my birthday is a lie. Second I will only have people I know in the real world as cyber friends. Third I set my privacy settings very carefully. And fourth, in spite of numbers 1-3, I don't post anything on there I would not be happy to see printed in the national press.
I use Twitter for an entirely different purpose. On Facebook you choose your friends. On Twitter anyone who wishes to can follow you. I therefore post very little, again always following rule 4 above. I mainly use it to collect information in connection with my work at our Community Radio Station. I follow organisations such as local police, fire and ambulance services, local sports clubs and other newsworthy organisations, rival media outlets etc. so I can see what they're tweeting about and pick up tips for local news stories and features.

Re: Facebook vs Twitter
We use Facetime on the iPad because we can have a video chat with family, friends and contacts when we are out of the country or just away from home which is quite a lot these days.
Video chat is better than messaging for me because my battered stubby fingers are useless on a keyboard and my Nottingham dialect is not recognised by voice recognition software. Even Cortana thinks she is talking to some boozy old drunk sometimes.

Re: Facebook vs Twitter
I did get FB when I was teaching at Uni, at the encouragement of the students, some of whom are still friends. It can be dangerous. For example despite me not wanting it on there they have never removed my birthday. My main concern is tha even if you have all the safety security things on it, if a friend can see you information then so can their friends and concequently you still dont have total control of who is seeing what. I did stop it once when we had a security issue, but was persuaded to re start. Now I mostly just keep an eye on my daughter's FB page and put my paintings and photos of events which show off Sue, or our grandson, both of whom I am very proud.
Dont go looking for Frank Manning though because it isn't my real name.

Re: Facebook vs Twitter
I'm interested in neither, although my son seems to think that I should set up Facebook for my business.
I think I must live in an alternative universe sometimes.
I genuinely don't care about it and have no interest whatsoever.
I'm happy for technology to enhance my life but will never let it dictate it, as many do.

Re: Facebook vs Twitter
Always said I would never use either but the new owners of our company are keen for us to use Twaddle both for personal and business stuff so I have embraced the thing and actually quite enjoy it, so long as you don't take it all too seriously.
...and I can keep an eye on what #Romig is up to !!
