This is the main reason why I am a member of this Forum!!

Unread post by ITWA Travel Writer »

I would like to thank all the “Forum Mods”, “David” and the frequent flyers who regularly post on this site for so quickly weeding out trolls and troublemakers.

Having a rest day today after a week of 5 periods of 2 grays, radiography speak, I have obviously missed all of todays goings on regarding “Soldier and Kenshaz..”

By your diligence we free thinkers, even those of us from the other side of the wall, are able to enjoy the interaction of this forum, so on behalf of most if not all forum members we thank you.

There was an announcement by P&O that they were relocating to Liverpool. Sorry you missed it Ray.

Been aware of that for months OBF , but was told on no account must I mention it until the official announcement is made which will coincide with the publication of the new brochure.

Yes Ray but what OBF did not say was that their new brochure will be written in German. The reason being that they want to capture the German market with their new boat called “The Nautilus”.

Pando’s new brochure headline is to be “Cruise von Liverpool mit Das Boot”.

Raymondo, just wait till Hull gets it's new cruise terminal, then we in the North won't have to drive all the way darn sarf and have to put up with silly southern prices and the PandO cruise snobs who still think Soton is something special

DN

Interestingly, and looking at availability on Caribbean cruises, the Manchester flights appear to always be the first to fill. Perhaps it is time Mohammed came to the mountain.
As far as the P&O cruise snobs go, aren't they part of the entertainment :-) Finally being a poor pensioners we do not venture much further south than Birmingham due to the exhortation prices charged.

It's only special because it deters the northerners ;)

DK may have a good point about Hull, but probably only for northern european cruises. I can't see P&O ever deserting Southampton, but as it gets busier it might be worthwhile for them to consider switching some ship(s) to Hull as a homeport and have them concentrate on Baltic and Fjords cruises, a saving of approx. 18hrs sailing time. from Southampton.

There are other cruise lines apart from Pile it high , sell it cheap PandO, who do plenty of Northern European and Scandanavian cruises, so hopefully they will get first choice and leave Soton to the cruise snobs darn sarf.

It would be much better for those from Mrs Krankie land. They'd be able to have a lie in.
Since P&O have already relocated Oceana to the Mediterranean for the summer it's not beyond the realms of possibility to locate a ship to Hull or Newcastle for Baltic and Norway cruises.
And for DK's benefit that applies to RCI, Holland America, Cunard and any other line operating modern cruise ships.

There are a lot less people in Scotland than in the southern half of England, and there's not many ports that can handle the modern behemoth cruise liners. Fred does sail from Rosyth, but although the port facilities can handle reasonably sized ships, most cruise ships significantly bigger than Adonia size are too high to get under the Forth Bridge(s). Greenock would be an option, but like Liverpool, it's on the wrong side of the country.

Notso

I would suggest that if and when Hull build a brand new cruise terminal, it will be designed with modern ships in mind, so as to maximise the usage?

Quite agree DK. Hull would make it so much easier for us 'Northerners' to be able to cruise more and show those from sarf just how to have a good time and crack our faces laughing instead of the suvern stiff upper lip.....

I'm all for it

I'm still waiting for this Northern Powerhouse to emerge and the north to start paying it's way.

As 'the most improved city in the UK' Hull would be a perfect location.

There is a niche for everyone.

Cruise & Maritime uses Tilbury and that is a bit of a dump, so why not Hull
