Rugby (League and Union)
Dear Forumeers,
Apart from from my adopted second team Italy being beaten by Scotland yesterday it's been a good weekend of results for my teams.
England beat Ireland today and call it what you will Wolfie, England are the only unbeaten team in the competition.
My local team Hull (RL)FC won at home today against Bradford and I had to chuckle when the not so mighty Hull KR were beaten at Wakefield yesterday.
Regards
Rob

I think that Wales did very well to beat France - and in Paris too. Couldn't believe the state of that pitch though!

It looked like a crinkly carpet, I noticed that the Aviva pitch was cutting up today as well.

the England game might not have been a free flowing game, but for grit and sheer determination, it was a great game to watch and could well be the deciding game of the series

It was a bruising match with no quarter being given on either side. England had the best of the exchanges in the first half but Ireland came back strongly in the second. It made compelling viewing and the result could have gone either way. The weather looked awful so there were plenty of handling errors.
Pleased that England won..............

it was always a kicking game due to the weather
and it was a hard game to call
Ireland made to many unforced errors and it cost them the game

Farrell was probably my man of the match, having been flattened by a late tackle by O'Brien in the first couple of minutes but getting up to complete an almost error-free match in terrible conditions. Ireland were unlucky with injuries but lucky to keep Healy on the field after his bit of thuggery. He will certainly miss the next few matches.

It's a wonder he didn't break the chap's leg. It makes you wonder what goes through somebody's mind using rucking as an excuse.

I have no divided loyalties, just the one.
Still a few matches to go Rob.
Two threads are needed. One for the, oh so almost football game, and one for the real men's game with true grit and guts.

The excuse he would use, obf, is that the leg he stamped on (was it Dan Cole's?) was on the wrong side of the ball, ie it was preventing Ireland getting quick ball from the ruck, which is against the laws of the game. Keith Wood, in commentary, said "Well, if you lie on the wrong side you deserve all you get". It's a hard man's game and he could possibly have been correct as long as it actually was rucking. In fact it wasn't, it was blatant, illegal stamping with the intention of inflicting injury and, having been cited, it seems very likely that he will now be belatedly punished. To be fair, Wood, having seen the replays, agreed with that.oldbluefox wrote:It's a wonder he didn't break the chap's leg. Re: Rugby (League and Union)
A very different weekend from the first one, though, with the weather and the state of the pitches making fast, open play near impossible. Scotland were the only team to manage it - the weather in Edinburgh obviously being better than Paris! The France/Wales game was pretty awful and, incredibly, France are now strong candidates for the Wooden Spoon. You can never tell, though, they may well come roaring back in two weeks at Twickenham and surprise us all. Hope not
