It's funny how .........

Unread post by barney »

the good folk of Kent have had to put up with Operation Stack for the last six weeks with hardly a mention !!!

Then suddenly it's the lead story on National News because a few holiday makers are affected.

All of a sudden government Ministers are involved.

Funny old world innitt

Can't believe how this can be allowed to happen in the 21st century. It must be terrible for anyone going on holiday but particularly frustrating for lorry drivers for whom it must be costing thousands. This should have been sorted long ago (but I can think of a whole host of things which should have been sorted but never are).

Even worse for the locals Foxy

We've friends who live in a village on the A20 and they can hardly get out of the village due to traffic.

It was taking people two hours to drive their kids to school

It must be spreading up here. I counted at least 10 cars at the traffic lights in Workington the other day.

"Traffic lights", whats traffic lights? Nothing like that in Hopeman. :o

Must be yet another thing were missing out on. Will have to speak to Mrs Krankie to see if we can't include them in our "Devolution Max" discussions with "Herr Cameron". :problem:

I don't want to make you jealous ITWA but we've actually got 4 sets of lights in the town but they are usually on red to keep the electricity bill down. I'll drop you some off..................... (I know a man who 'does'. He 'does' kneecaps too!!!)
Our fathers down in Westminster seem to think if we have a few traffic lights and a couple of those elephant dropping roundabouts up here that we won't notice HS2 and the Cross Rail link.

Seriously, barney, it's about time they sorted out the problem in Calais. These are not migrants fleeing war and persecution since there is the whole of Europe they can settle in. Clearly it must be more lucrative for them here to be so desperate to get into Britain, so we need to get our house in order as well, although I feel sure there will be plenty of left wing bleeding hearts thinking they should all be able to flood in.

The really bizarre thing is that the French fail to control their own borders and then complain when we do.

I'm starting to think that letting them in is going to be the best option.

Charter a ferry and put as many as possible on. Then, set sail for Edinburgh.

We have been working out that Stack has been in force for 27 of the last 36 days.

I don't think its the illegal immigrants causing the stacking, rather its the striking dock workers.

However I do think the EU should be looking at ways to prevent not only the Calais illegal migrant problems but also the overflowing reception centres and the illegal trafficking of migrants across the Med.

My own solution would be to only allow asylum claims if they are made in the migrants country of origin or the nearest safe haven, either at embassies or specialy set up EU centres. But then of course to ensure it works they need to speedily repatriate anyone without the correct asylum papers, not sure how they would cope with those migrants who deliberately destroy their national docks, maybe the EU could set up astateless reception camp in Antarcticato deter migrants still trying to enter illegally.

A bit of both to be honest Towny

The two of the last three causes of Stack have been because security was breached at the Tunnel

That means that they actually got inside and caused all the trains to stop for safety reasons.

Again, the French police stand idley by and do nothing when the perimeter is breached.
