You either love it or loathe it ... And I fall into the love it camp.
Anything that takes the 'p' out of political correctness gets my vote.

I'm another 'love it' even though Clarkson can be a bit of a p***ock at times.

Generally very good, but occasionally irritates.

I thought the bit with JC in his silly little car was hilarious and also when he told Duncan Bannatyne that he did not understand him.

I thought the bit where Captain Slow navigated the Bentley Continental GT on the rally course was great. Seeing that beast take off and land, great stuff. 8-)

I'm afraid I loathe it. The off the cuff "banter" between the " boys" is so obviously rehearsed and scripted and the on road situations so staged and set up that the whole programme irritates and grates. My 16 year old son however loves it (enough said)

Oh dear, oh dear oh dear oh dear - I absolutely can't stand it! I realise that there is an element of policital incorrectness of which I am all in favour, but (donning boots and grabbing a barrel of kippers to use as missiles in defence) I really do think that men (if that is what these presenters think they are) could be much more profitably employed in doing some ironing, gardening, washing the car etc. Then there is the worry that the antics of these men will encourage other men to behave similarly.

I would have said that this has been posted tongue in cheek, but I really don't want to be accused of starting another fetish thread! ;)

There's nothing quite so invigorating I feel as a man in a pinny doing the ironing with a wistful smile on his face. :lolno:

I can't stand it either, and I cannot bear Jeremy Clarkson. I remember the old Top Gear with Raymond Baxter when it wasn't so contrived. I suppose it does have a serious purpose somewhere in there but I haven't the patience to watch it.

I'm afraid I don't like it either. Gone are the days when they reviewed new cars and talked about motors to be replaced by (IMO) silly stunts and pranks. It seems the programme is now more about the presenters than content. It's a thumbs down from me. Fair dues to those who enjoy it but it's not my cup of tea any more.
I was taught to be cautious

What bothers me is that when tv presenters do 'silly stunts' will some viewers go and 'try it out at home'? Maybe people like that would only be in the minority, but in these times of hardship, recession and the need to have a 'green footprint' is larking about in vehicles really 'the done thing'?

The other thing which bothers me is the presence of those awful tacky 'racing machines' in motorway service centres - do they encourage people to drive perhaps in a foolhardy and risky manner?

At the end of the day, anything which glorifies or 'sexes up' misuse of any type of vehicle is really nothing more than stupid; so in my book why can't these presenters go off and earn their money by doing something else? Would it actually prick their consciences if this 'pratting about in vehicles' lead to someone messing about and causing a serious injury or a death?

Rant over. Apologies. Bring back Barry Bucknell I say.

I don't like driving and cars to be 'sexed up'. A car gets you from A to B, but it is a very dangerous activity and certainly not something with which you should show off, or use as a boost to one's ego. I hate the silly tricks they get up to (I try to avoid it but have seen snippets) such as how far can I drive this car which has been pumped full of water before it conks out and bits drop off it. eh ????????

Jeez Mo, are you trying to tell me that my wide bore exhaust and fluffy dice don't impress you :-)

To be fair I think the program has to be seen as edutainment for those that like to dream about cars rather than a serious motoring program ... alternatively it is probably one of the best comedies on the BBC at the minute (Mrs Browns boys excepted).

Ken, in a word - no ! I have to say when I see/hear a souped up car roaring past, my first thought is 'there's summat wrong with that car' quickly followed by 'little willy syndrome' and 'in a hurry are we?' finishing with 'Fool!'.

I'll take your word for your assertion that the programme is seen as entertainment. ;)

reminds me of one of Clarksons rants a few years ago, "If you drive a small boring car you dont like cars, if you dont like cars you dont like driving, if you dont like driving you are not a good driver, if you are not a good driver you are a danger to other road users so you should be banned and that will get rid of all the small boring cars and leave the roads free for people with nice cars to enjoy driving them on uncluttered roads". Ahmen

And if that doesn't demonstrate what sort of person Clarkson is, I don't know what does ! We have a small boring car because we can't afford owt else ! Fool !

Don't take much notice of cars to be honest, especially tv shows about them. The only time I would watch it would be if they did a special on how to pack a ford cmax for a drive to southampton with 4 passengers, luggage, pushchair, mobilty tri walker and a wheelchair. I'm with Em and Wina G, ref mrs bown. I think I may download some from the iplayer onto my ipad for the upcoming cruise.
