Yes! I got up early, left Sue sleeping and started the new lap top went to CC, and after reading the latest on Windows 10, I thought if they offer it I'll take it. Within 45 minutes up came the offer and although it took a long time I am happy to say that it is now installed. I had time to make tea, shave, shower and have breakfast while it loaded. Down side is that it deleted internet Explorer and put in a different programme, and I lost all my favourites. I now have to figure out how to get IEx, and Chrome.

Incidentally the email downloaded 1385 emails dating back to 2013!

Thanks for the heads up Frank.

Just got the OK to install as well, but a little hesitant. Thought I'd wait and see how others found it. I'll probably bite the bullet and install after lunch.

Frank.

Not sure if this will work with Windows 10 and it might take a bit of searching. But to locate your Favourites files (if still available) click on My Computer C:/users/your name/ and in the drop down list is the Favourites folder. At least that's how it works in Windows 7. As I said it's probably a whole new kettle of fish in 10. But worth a go

I won't be installing for a couple of weeks as I'm decommissioning the laptop as my daily "work" machine and setting up a new desktop PC once I've moved the home office upstairs into the spare room. I will be very interested to hear how folks get on with the new OS...

At present still learning SS! I'm so..so with these things, and a lot of my panics are a lack of knowledge about the available tools and how to access them.

Hi All.
Well I have bitten the bullet and installed windows 10!!
No time at present to take a good look at it, but with the exception of "Windows Edge" search engine, I notice little different from my 8.2 set up. More latter.

Seems as though the final tranch has been released today, mine among them, and my laptop has been configuring updates for about 15 mins and still only 22% complete, so the test match could be over by the time its finished. 8-)

Yes John, I was getting a bit concerned as to the time it was taking to download, copy files, install files and configure settings and I run a very fast machine.

Be warned folk's!! because it switches over to the new search engine "Edge" it will forget all your saved passwords. A wee bit annoying to say the least, but done now.

For all that was said about version 8.1, I see little difference with this windows 10.

Well it installed without any issues, and so far I like the look of it. It'll take some getting use to as it's allot different to Windows 7. I was trying to import my Favourites but it does it almost automatically, I think it was through edge, although not 100% sure as it was so quick. Even my Live Essentials and more importantly Live Mail still works which I was a little concerned about after having read that it wouldn't.

Still not sure about the default browser, and unless I'm missing it I can't see how you can open additional tabs. Oh well, early days and plenty of time to play. (Update) Just got Google back as my home page although I haven't yet worked out where the home page button is, so that's good, and worked out how to get extra tabs by clicking on the + left side of the top greyed out bar.

One thing that is a bonus unless I'm missing one hell of a file is I've gained 20gb hard disc space.

Well I got Google up but can't see how to make it my home page. Perhaps I can't. Will have a scout round for some info.

Win 10 up and running but no improvement using Edge vs Chrome or Firefox so I have re-set my browser to Firefox; and more importantly it still has not rid my laptop of its current lethargy which gets worse through the day; but I will persevere with it and try and learn some of the other features but since all I want is a speedy machine to do the mundane browsing, internet banking and shopping and e-mails I doubt it will be life changing.

Didn't I see somewhere that the download allows you to create an .msi file or something that allows a clean install on a formatted HDD?

Towny, have you tried cleaning the fan, and air cooling? Sue's lap top played up as soon as it got too warm, and cleaning them fixed it.

Frank, that sounds as though it might be the problem as it does run very hot. I don't think I want to try cleaning the fan, is this a reasonably cheap job for a professional?

Putting the nozzle of your vacuum cleaner over the vents should suck most of the gunge out

Win 10 still working, Laptop given a good vacuuming and fan seems a bit quieter, time will tell if it improves performance.
However my printer did not work and needed new drivers but it took almost as long to get it back up and running as the Win 10 download, with several abortive re-starts needed before it eventually finished loading.
Hopefully everything should now be OK, my Firefox bookmarks and passwords are still OK, and I use Sky on line e-mail and not the MS system, so that's still running normally.

I have today rolled back to Windows 7 for several reasons.

1. MS Money 2004 won't work with 10. Yes, it's outdated but I like it.
2. Flight Sim FSX has graphics issues with 10. No fixes found yet.
3. And as Graham mentioned, I personally found it too fussy and don't like the way the browser operates among others.

Still that's not to say I might not change my mind later within the one year offer, as the offer to upgrade is still available once you roll back and shows in your task bar.

Rolling back was easy and only took about 15 minutes with no issues and everything as it was, well almost. The only thing I had to do was re-organise all my emails in Live Mail, as they were all over the place. Other than that everything was hunky dory and working as it was

Up and running without any problems. At first glance, not much different from 8.1 apart from a few bells and whistles which I am unlikely to use, many of which I have uninstalled.
