E Cigarettes on prescription ????
It has been announced today that E cigarettes may be given on prescription the day after people with coeliac disease will more than likely have their prescriptions stopped. Smoking is a bad habit and a lifestyle choice whereas coeliac is a disease that is hard to live with.
In my opinion the NHS is a joke, for years they have been feeding the habits of smack heads now they are thinking of spending millions feeding the habits of smokers at the expense of people with real illnesses.

The more I hear about what the NHS does fund on the foolish and feckless whilst those with genuine illness are denied treatment the more exasperated I become. In this instance if you can afford cigarettes you can afford to buy your own nicotine patches, E cigs etc. It's a lifestyle choice.

Unless doctors are going to prescribe the vapour sticks in batches of 50 or more then this will be another conservative U-turn policy waiting to happen... if doctors do prescribe them in bigger batches then this has the potential to become an epidemic amongst the young who will see e-cigs as the next fad to get involved with.

Perhaps people should , instead of going off on a Daily Wail rant, actually get the facts first ??
Then again why let the facts spoil a good venting of one's spleen ?

Just a random post I picked off of Google, but they all pretty much say the same thing.

I thought it was based on a report and that it is a maybe / could be / might be rather than an ' it is going to be ' ?

There are many things that the NHS do which are not essential to health but pander to the vanity of those involved (breast enlargement, for example) - lifestyle choices, in other words. Whether this controversy over e-cigs is a "definite" or a "proposal", I neither know nor care but, if it does go ahead, then it will only take money away from where it is more needed.

Well done Moby, I was beginning to think all people on here did was read the headlines and look down their noses at people from upon their high horsesManoverboard wrote:I thought it was based on a report and that it is a maybe / could be / might be rather than an ' it is going to be ' ?
E Cigs have been proved to be 95% less harmful, than tobacco, which means a lot less people dying of cancer and smoking related illnesses, this in turn cuts down on the cost to the NHS and also frees up beds and other vital services to treat other people who didn't smoke themselves to death, so anything that reduces the burden on the NHS and improves peoples lives is a good thing , but no Jackasses on here start ranting about lifestyle choices
Can any of you actually think beyond your own little prejudices and your own tiny lives ???

DK I'm sorry if I got it wrong but my post was based on reports by the BBC News, ITV NEWS, MSN News and the national press, perhaps you can post up information you have that contradict these reports.Dark Knight wrote:Perhaps people should , instead of going off on a Daily Wail rant, actually get the facts first ??

May I also apologise for posting this on the wrong forum but I thought I was in General Chat.

It may be right, or indeed wrong, to prescribe e-cigs but isn't it already the case that one's Doctor will happily prescribe patches and gum to assist with packing up smoking ... if yes then there can surely be no objections ?

I'm amazed the amount of vapour these things produce when the user exhales. I'd love all that being blown around me (not) even if it harmless. Its still been in someone's gob. Another fashion accessory for some.

That's true Stephen but we inhale second hand air all the time when we are in confined spaces that's one of the reasons I like cruising as opposed to flying.
Sorry about the multiple post for some reason they didn't appear first time.

No headlines read. It was reported on BBC and Sky news.Dark Knight wrote:

If you can afford to smoke then why can you not afford your vapour puffs? The alternative is there so I don't see what the problem is. Seemingly some people rely too much on the nanny state - and yes, it is a lifestyle choice, the same as drinking, chocolate, gambling, expensive cars etc. [/quote]Dark Knight wrote:E Cigs have been proved to be 95% less harmful, than tobacco, which means a lot less people dying of cancer and smoking related illnesses, this in turn cuts down on the cost to the NHS and also frees up beds and other vital services to treat other people who didn't smoke themselves to death, so anything that reduces the burden on the NHS and improves peoples lives is a good thing , but no Jackasses on here start ranting about lifestyle choices

True Ray, but there is a difference between second hand air and what resembles a power plant chimney being chuffed out with e cigs.

Ok, I don't want to upset anyone, but I am against these e-cigs being available on prescription.
