Really sorry to hear that Merv, it is never an easy decision to make. Awful for you but you clearly did the right thing for your old girl!

Yes I'm sure it was the right decision. Any time she had left was going to be very short, at best uncomfortable and at worst painful and distressing. And sad as we are now, in the longer term we'll remember the good times long after the last few days have faded. And I don't think it will be too long before we welcome another cocker into our lives. We've had two and they were both wonderful.

Hi Merv,

I think a loving owner knows when the time is right... it's as if one day you look into their eyes and you see the sparkle has gone....A good decision Merv and one that l've had to make several times myself....although the last was perhaps the hardest...my little collie 'Jute' was wagging her tail when l took her into the vets for the last time....sadly she had been on one course of chemotherapy which worked for about 3 months but she then started to go off her food again and l could feel the lumps in her neck had got bigger so the writing was on the wall so to speak....funny thing is l often think of that wagging tail but still know l made the right decision for her.

At your age would it be wise to bring a new pet into you lives?

Go for it. Only you know if another pet is for you, and when you welcome another dog into your lives, post the photos for us all to enjoy. Judith

After the pain comes the pleasure. After losing Meg we knew we couldn't be without a dog for long, so meet Coco, who arrived yesterday. She's an adorable Cockerpoo.

She looks lovely, I'm sure she will bring much happiness into your lives.......now get ready for the fun and games;) When we got another cocker spaniel after our one died (She was 15yrs) we had forgotten how lively puppies can be! Ellie is now 4yrs and calming down, like our first one we can't imagine being without her. She likes to get visitors & to lie on our laps.

Well done. My daughter and family have a Spoodle (Springer/Poodle) Saffy. She is very similar in appearance to your Coco except she is brown and white. She is delightful, and has a lovely temperament. Enjoy Coco and of course you will not forget Meg. Judith
