Re: Scary news
Gill I do hope everything turns out well for your daughter and your family and especially your new little grand daughter. It just reinforces how fragile and precious life is.
Carole I hope everything goes well for your daughter and your new little addition.

Re: Scary news
my thoughts are with your little treasure, gill. trying to send her as much extra strength as she needs. however, please make sure that you and tony look after yourselves. you will be needed a lot for extra support when sophie strengthens. also caroline will need her mum now more than ever. congratulations on the birth of your grand daughter and hoping all will soon start going well for her. it is early days yet.
hope all goes well for your grandchild carole

Re: Scary news
Yes, after a day waiting for the phone call, heard about 6 yesterday evening - a little girl weighing 7lbs 10oz arrived safely - after an initial hesitation in breathing. My elder daughter was with her as well as Elizabeth's partner and said that as the baby arrived and didn't seem to be breathing the midwife pressed a button on the wall and instantly the room was full of people - almost at once the baby took a breath! Her name is fairly unusual - Willow - it's an old English name I've discovered after looking it up. I was taken aback when I first heard it but it's grown on me. Her middle name is Jessie which is an old family name of my husband's family - it was his Grandmother's first name and his mother's middle name.
Elizabeth is exhausted, no sleep for 2 nights. She hopes to be discharged this afternoon but we won't go up to see her until tomorrow afternoon to let her get settled in. Her partner is amazing with children - even babies - so I'm sure he'll ensure she gets some sleep and then she'll feel a little more herself when we see her tomorrow. Now really looking forward to tomorrow afternoon!

Congratulations to you and all the family, Carole. I really like her name and hope everything continues well.
Enjoy meeting little Willow and catching up with the proud parents. And if you take any pictures, I'd love to see her.

Re: Scary news
Just caught up with this thread and sending positive prayers and thoughts to baby Sophie.
My daughter had a little boy at the end of the August - our first grandson and he is doing fine. Strangely enough they called him
Alexander Jesse. Jesse was my dad's middle name so it seems to be making a comeback!

Re: Scary news
I haven't liked to "harp on" as it isn't as important to others as it is to me.
Sophie is doing really well. She is now 35 weeks, over seven weeks since birth, 5lbs from 2lbs 6ozs, off all oxygen and breathing completely independently, out of the incubator and maintaining her own temperature. She still has the occasional de-sat, when she forgets to breathe, but comes out of herself after a few seconds. As yet she isn't feeding much, her sucking reflex is still immature, but she is being offered the breast each time before her tube feed.
Once her feeding is better, which will hopefully be in the next three weeks maybe, she can go home partially tube fed. They say these babies are usually off the tube within a fortnight of going home. So fingers crossed, she will be home in early December.
Thank you for asking, Mavis.
PS Caroline is spending up to ten hours a day at the Unit, so is very, very tired, but hanging on in there very well.

Re: Scary news
lovely photo - glad she's coming along well.
If she were in Evalina ( St Thomas) she might have had one of my sets of hand-knitted clothes!

Re: Scary news
We were only talking about the kind ladies that knit the little hats on Sunday. She doesn't need one during the day any more, but they still put one on at night. Bless you, Meg.
