dubrovnik as a holiday destination, not a cruise stop
after visiting Croatia and esp Dubrovnik, Lady Dark has decided a weeks holiday in Croatia is in order ,to further explore the region
so has anyone done Croatia as a holiday destination and not just a 1 day cruise stop and have those seasoned ( ready salted) travellers any info on what to do apart from walking the walls etc ??
answers on a post to ..............Me

You have several choices ...
Book a Hotel for a week in delightful Budva and split the time between it and Kotor .... Montenegro.
Book a cruise on a much smaller boat ( 50 pax ) to visit the Islands and non cruise ship stops on the Croatian coast.
Book a 2 week coaching tour that will take you throughout Croatia and beyond, could recommend an upmarket Operator if required.

If you are in Dubrovnik and fancy a little quiet calm 'people watching' sort of day - go over to Cavtat. It's not very far, you can get there by bus if needs be from Dubrovnik, and the views on the way there are so lovely. Cavtat itself is a small little harbour, terracotta roof tiles mingled with dark green foliage and rampant splashes of colours of flowers and shrubs. The little harbour (there are two small harbour areas) provide delightful restful glimpses of crystal clear acqua water, and the sunlight makes pretty patterns through the water - it's so restful and relaxing, and there are a couple of nice restaurants there too.

We spent a few holidays in what was formerly Yugoslavia; Opatija, Porec and finally Dubrovnik.
There are some beautiful hotels just outside the city and also smaller resorts not too far away. Sveti Stefan is absolutely gorgeous.
From Dubrovnik you can get to Sarajevo but it's a long day. However, a trip to Mostar is a must.
One of our daughters did a week's sailing holiday off the coast from Dubrovnik and loved it.
Packing is easy, it's a very popular naturist destination!
Look up 'cruisett' and try and plan it around cruise ship visits.

looking online, we think a hotel about 20 mins out of the city by bus or taxi might be a good solution , so as Wolfie said we can do some travelling around

Did you see that street corner where some bloke called Ferdinand was shot in 1914? There are 2 footprints in the pavement - amazing coincidence that the concrete had been laid just before he stood there !!

No, it was a while ago that I was there and I don't think that was open to the public then. Sounds interesting
