Going slightly off-topic.... we bought a new car for my wife recently. We told them to remove the dealer's sticker from the rear-window too.- unless they wanted to give us a further discount to pay us for advertising for them.

Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
What do you do if you get one of those number plates bearing the dealer's name/logo ?

Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
Can't do much about the number plate. By law, it must have the maker's postcode at least (I think) and possibly the name. I don't mind a very small, insignificant name on a plate, but a bright yellow sticker at eye=level is another thing.

...or maybe buy a yellow marker-pen, to cover it over?

Even though I don't really agree with you about the branded carrier bags, I am with you on the car dealer's sticker. Now, where's the logic in that?!Romig1 wrote:Can't do much about the number plate. That can't be right, otherwise Halford's would have to replicate it if you needed a replacement.Romig1 wrote:Can't do much about the number plate. Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
I don't think there is any regulation about anything that has to be included on the reg. plate (except the registration number, of course!). I just think there is a limit on the size and content of anything else, such as advertising, that is printed on it

Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
I may be completely wrong (and dreamt it), but I think the maker of the number plate(not the vehicle) has to display some marking, so it can be traced back?Silver_Shiney wrote:That can't be right, otherwise Halford's would have to replicate it if you needed a replacement.Romig1 wrote:Can't do much about the number plate. Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
The British Standard for number plates
The British Standard sets out the characteristics of
the number plate. This includes visibility, strength and
reflectivity. To meet the British Standard, each number
plate must be permanently and legibly marked with the
following information.
n The British Standard number (currently BS AU 145d)
n The name, trademark or other way of identifying the
manufacturer or supplier
n The name and postcode of the supplying outlet

I know I'm right 'cos I'm not often wrong !
Anyways, that sounds daft because as Shiny said earlier - what happens when Halfords produce a replacement plate ?

If Halford produce the plate (be it a new one or a replacement) they have to include the info as per the British Standard. Ie name/postcode etcqbman1 wrote:I know I'm right 'cos I'm not often wrong !

Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
Let me get this straight - it's the supplier of the plate that needs to be identified, not the car ?
What's the point of that, then ? Sounds like more unnecessary bureaucracy to me !

Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
I guess it is to limit the number of false plates, although any tea leaf worth the name could probably falsify the name and post code as well.qbman1 wrote:Let me get this straight - it's the supplier of the plate that needs to be identified, not the car ?

Our number plate, made up at Halfords, is naked, except for the Reg. No.

Then I guess it doesn't conform to British Standards?wolfie wrote:Our number plate, made up at Halfords, is naked, except for the Reg. No.

Re: The Demise of the Carrier Bag
My understooding was that, when going to the likes of Halfords to get a replacement plate made up, you had to take the registration document to prove it was your vehicle. Happy to be proved wrong.
Well, prepared to be proved wrong...
