The Circus . . .

Unread post by gfwgfw »

. . . . is coming to the fine Hampshire town of Eastleigh

In the form of a bi-election for electing a new MP for the vacant position, due to the ex honourable gentleman - Mr Hume resigning

There are fourteen men and ladies standing for this very important position

The election is just two weeks hence, which I believe to be the shortest lead up to such an important election

Having read the list of candidates has left me completely nonplussed

Are we, the voter expected to take this political farce serious

Personally I have never ever been so bemused by our current government and it's associates

IMO Mr Hume was a moderately good MP, his lady was a moderately bad wife

You know I actually knew that  ...what we don't understand here is you never meet anyone who admits voting for him!

Sorry Graham - on a different thread there was something about people standing on the IOW (and G C Looney?) :lolno: .

Hoping to be 'down your way' by September latest, and will make a 'deposit' for GWF Towers at that time ....... if not before.

Trust all is well with you.

gfw

I don't use PM's to those who I have not met/trust.

Once bitten.......... as they say.

It's a useful facility but can be abused. Not on here though, thankfully.

Take care with whom you share your personal thoughts, feelings and situation, it can come back to bite you.

I think a PM is a good way to discuss things that are not of interest to, nor in the interests of the general forum, as for not using them for people you don't know, I don't see that it matters who it is, we send & receive Emails all the time from people we don't know. I think it's far more polite to send a PM than to discuss things in public.

I have found that some people use pms to try and influence people into their way of thinking.
I would not pm anyone I did not know as it seems odd to do so, I prefer to ask a question on an open forum like this one.

Wolfie, I totally agree with you. PM's can be very handy to talk to those you trust.

But not everyone is trustworthy and it has been known for some to twist things to suit thier own agenda.

I have the t-shirt.... etc.

Not on this forum I should add. :D

Wise words, but to put it into perspective, I recently PM'd someone, so the thread would not go further off topic and they had asked me a question, to which I replied in my PM. However, I did not elaborate further, other than replying to that question, and certainly with no details that could later, as I said previously, come back to bite me on open forum.

I don't see where trust comes into it ..it's just a message to someone that may not be anyone else's business or of any interest to them. Another thing could be telling someone they got something wrong without embarrassing them in public. It's just an email really.

I prefer to discuss things with people I dont yet know properly on an open forum.
Then if there is any dispute over who says what it is there for all to see.
IMO it is wrong to harass people with pms to try and get them to see their way of thinking,as has been previously mentioned.

Why should there be a dispute over who said what in a private conversation? nothing to do with harassment some things just don't need to be out in the public view, especially differences that make a forum appear argumentative, criticise the post by all means, but if the poster must be criticised it's best in private surely?

Personally I would never open an EMail from anybody I do not know, company or individual, I automatically delete them.

Too much risk of introducing a virus, or of hacking.

gfw, sorry to lock your thread but it appears to have gone way off topic. Please feel free to start another if you wish to discuss the original topic further.

What I will say however is that some people are very two faced .. they suggest conversation by PM and then they immediately report any PM's they receive as 'harrassment'.
So I would agree with those that say be careful.
