Eastleigh By-Election CC Poll

Unread post by qbman1 »

Following on from the BFG's "Circus" thread (which sadly got rather out of hand  ), I thought it might be fun to run our own little by-election so I have listed as many of the candidates as space will allow. Please cast your vote (don't worry, it is a secret poll and only the results will show, not who voted for whom).

It's good to see that the "extreme" parties are alive and well. Not heard of the Elvis Loves Pets Party - any idea what their manifesto says?

The "Others" on the list are:

JIM DUGGAN - Peace Party
DR IAIN MACLENNAN - National Health Action Party
KEVIN MILBURN - Christian Party "Proclaiming Christ's Lordship"
DARREN PROCTER - Trade Union and Socialist Coalition
DANNY STUPPLE - Independent

Nothing like a By-Election to bring them out of the woodwork !

..especially when it's a high profile departure of the sitting MP.

My mum lives in Hedge End and says Huhne was down her street a few weeks ago knocking on doors saying how wonderful he and the LibDems were!

As Returning Officer for the CC election, I am afraid we cannot accept negative votes so shall I put you down as a "spoiled ballot paper" PTE ?

My mum had a phone call from the Eastleigh LibDem office yesterday, asking for her vote, and another one this morning from LibDem HQ in London. Both were asked how they got her ex-directory phone number..... They just said it was very easy to get it.

Someone posted my private home phone number on Facebook yesterday, so I suppose it is....
The Liberals only get in here because Labour have no chance & people didn't want the Conservatives. I forsee the Conservative win for Maria.

looking at that list - it's well overdue timewise for a revision of nomination rules - the number of 'sponsors' and the deposit payable

Interesting that nobody has voted for the labour candidate. Not surprising given their last attempt though. Almost any other party would be better than Ed Milliband and crew

When the labour party candidate has written that he was disappointed that Margaret Thatcher was not killed by the IRA Brighton bomb it isn't surprising to me that he has no support. What is surprising is that any mainstream political party would select as a candidate someone who has aired those views in writing

I'm surprised that wasn't made general knowledge. I feel sure that had similar been said by a Tory the Labour party would have ensured it was spread all over everywhere.
I still cannot get over the obnoxious Harriet Harmann calling Danny Alexander a 'ginger-headed rodent'. It does the party no favours whatsoever.
I was taught to be cautious

One of the big issues here is building on green belt, a scheme overseen by the Lib Dems, they want to build thousands of homes on beautiful countryside & golf course.

A friend of mine is heading up an anti-building campaign a couple of miles away from us. Like us, he lives right on the outskirts of the town with a field of cows as neighbours ... but we both knew, when we bought our houses that the land would ultimately be zoned for development. He has been very vociferous at council meetings saying that the land beside him is 'beautiful countryside', should be preserved blah-de-blah-de-blah-de-BS.

He is less interested in discussing the fact that when the area of housing he lives in was being built there was also a campaign against it for exactly the same reasons and at the time his attitude was (as best as I can remember) that they should just 'dry their eyes and stop their whining and stifling advancement for the wider community purely in a selfish attempt to keep the price of their own houses up' . The problem he has is that one of the councillors he is making representations to was heavily involved in the campaign against his development. it is amazing the difference 15 years can make .. especially if it affects you directly.

I have taken a different approach and have become very friendly with the farmer who owns many of the fields around us ... he gets to determine which order they will be built on :-)
