Neatly back on track Cubie. I don't think anyone noticed. I officially declare Christmas can almost start to begin tomorrow. At least we'll be in the right month

I hope the awful weather at the weekend didn't stop everyone getting on with their preparations, especially decorating trees or the outside of their houses.

I would love to have some decorations outside, but they definitely would blow away where we are. We were hoping to have a porch built this year and I'd planned on having a tree with lights safely inside it. We had the quote in July, received planning permission(eventually) and the builders have just phoned to say they may start on 14th Dec. Everything takes time over here  Will it be built by Christmas.

Due to unforeseen circumstances and the wrong kind of leaves, the start of Christmas has been delayed until 10th December

Shouldn't that be 'Deck the Malls'?

That would normally be the case for us, but we have the grandchildren staying and it'll be nice for them if we bedeck now. And just for clarification we were 16 when we had our children and our daughter had hers when she was 16. Lest anyone should think we're old or anything ridiculous.

Friends in Holland advise that
The 25th of December is the day for the religious festival here but unless you’re a Dutch family who have watched a lot of Hollywood movies Santa Claus is not coming to town in quite the same way. This is because his close cousin (who is definitely not the same person) Sinterklaas arrives in mid-November. Sinterklaas rides a white horse round town and with his helpers “Zwarte Pieten” spends the next few weeks handing out biscuits and putting chocolate letters in everyone’s schoes. Then finally on 5th December Sinterklaas drops off a poem and your presents and heads back to Spain. Yep Spain, not Lapland, two entirely different people, remember.

Unless he lives up in the Sierra Nevada, his sleigh won't be a lot of use then !

I’m just relieved that Rudolph has found a good home. I thought he’d perished in the Irish sea. ;)

Outdoor decs springing up all around on the way home now. Not so many in our road - it's too posh, you understand (or we are all too mean!) but the main road in the next village looks like Blackpool !
