Correct decision IMO especially when you see it spelt out in the judge's summing up.

Re: Oscar Pistorius
I would think shooting 4 bullets at some body through a door is pretty clearly attempted murder, as the intent is to kill ,not just to worry them a bit and hope they climb out of the window and go home?
so given that the person on the other side of the door did die, I would call that murder?

Re: Oscar Pistorius
I'm not going to argue over this one, I'm just stating how I feel, and me being me - it's not going to change.
I feel very sorry for Mnr Pistorius, he didn't KNOW who was on the other side of the door. I reckon he didn't think it was his girlfriend, and that he was being the victim of an intruder. QED I think he shot in self defence, and for me it's very firmly a case of man slaughter. He didn't have x-ray vision, so he couldn't have KNOWN exactly where the somebody in the bathroom was at the time the shots were fired, QED he couldn't have aimed at someone, these were more like warning shots if anything. I think that he used the gun wanting to frighten off an intruder.
End of comment. The whole affair is a tragedy.

Re: Oscar Pistorius
I think she ridiculed him and he got violent and threatened her so she tried to seek some protection from him courtesy of the bathroom door. No way was there an intruder ... he knew it and blew her away in a crime of passion.
Guilty of murder .... end of.
Had it been a coloured guy in his place he would have been six feet under by now.
A long stretch will be my kind of justice.

It was obviously a case of sleep shooting that hasn't been diagnosed yet

His claim to have not known who was in the bathroom is cobblers in my view. He may be disabled but I didn't think his disability was blindness or stupidity. Did he not notice his girlfriend wasn't in bed? In the circumstances of a suspected intruder wouldn't you whisper to her to stay quiet while you investigated? I think the decision is spot on.

Re: Oscar Pistorius
It wasn't the first time he had discharged a firearm in temper. He had a fascination with guns, something which he tried to deny in court. Four shots through the door? Whether it was Reeva on the other side or somebody else it was clear they were hardly coming out of that toilet alive.
If he had believed there was an intruder (which I doubt) surely he had him holed up in the toilet whilst Reeva could have phoned the police. The intruder would be going nowhere in that situation. I find his whole defence totally illogical.

Re: Oscar Pistorius
Just checked my ears and they do seem a bit pointed!!!
In any case one year in jail followed by four years in a luxury mansion for killing somebody in iffy circumstances? Come on!!!
However I can't understand why Reeva stayed with him, with mention of marriage knowing what a violent temper he had.

Reeva probably stayed because he was a big shot celebrity and would give her air time which, as a Mo-Dell seeking a top spot career, is absolutely vital.
Both of them were, imo, shallow and victims of the World of would be Superstars

Re: Oscar Pistorius
Is there a couple on this forum that locks the bathroom door when they are the only people in the house ?, sounds fishy from the start.
If someone is behind a locked door they do not pose a threat until they unlock it, that's when you think about shooting them surely.

Yes we do. I wouldn't, however, fire four bullets through the door whoever was in there.Raybosailor wrote:Is there a couple on this forum that locks the bathroom door when they are the only people in the house ?

Hi Mob...l suspect you ain't far off the mark with your version of how this tragic event unfolded. Hopefully he'll be handed down a long custodial sentence with 'if l had my way' the confiscation of his prosthetic legs as a reminder of how he took the life of this beautiful young ladies life.
Not so sure l go along with your Mo-Dell...seeking tops spot career theory as it would appear Reeva was already at the top of her modeling career
....and by all account a very likeable, caring human being.
Regards
Keith

Re: Oscar Pistorius
Yip, if one of us is in a bathroom the person in the bathroom locks the door. However - I can remember being quite 'confused' by a suite in LA once which had the lock to the bathroom door on the outside!!!Raybosailor wrote:Is there a couple on this forum that locks the bathroom door when they are the only people in the house ?, sounds fishy from the start.

I'm a bit unclear about this locked bathroom door - did he check to see if it was locked (and therefore he may have realised who or what was in there) ? If he didn't check the door handle to see if it was locked, then in my opinion he simply panicked and shot.
Admittedly someone (or something) behind a locked door might not pose a threat until they unlock it, but then the person or thing behind the door might wait until I was asleep and I'd be unable to defend myself. Would I shoot first and ask questions later - sure I would. The best form of defence is attack.

Re: Oscar Pistorius
Logic says that if you suspect there is an intruder who has locked themselves in the toilet and you are standing there with a loaded gun they are going nowhere. Had he called Reeva to call the police he would quickly establish who was behind that door. Had he called out to the person behind the door he would quickly have established it was Reeva.
