When should Christmas start?

I think I would use the Mateus Rose to sprinkle over mine along with the salt and Heinz tomato sauce !

Chilled St Tropez rose on a warm sunny evening with salmon, smoked or otherwise, remains sublime .... pou moi.

Mateus Rose still works for us with a Bar-B-Q'd tuna steak with a tomato and onion salad ... a la Madeira.

Where we all went wrong, perhaps, was drinking these wines with just about everything rather than saving them for the food that they actually compliment.

And this relates to when Christmas should start.....how ?

Cos they are cheerful things to do and as such they help us get through the doom and gloom that has become Christmas.

We've just returned from a week in North Norfolk and most of the shops there seem to be involved in a Christmas window dressing competition and I've got to admit that even old Ebeneezer here enjoyed looking at the displays in Cromer, Sheringham and Holt.

We still won't put the tree up until a week on Sunday though, much to the annoyance of the grandkids.

Can anyone explain to me what blue Christmas tree lights have to do with Christmas? I'm always amazed when I travel around and see the front of houses decorated in blue lights??

You could argue that all lights, regardless of colour, have little to do with the "traditional" Christmas but as we seem to be stuck with a massive light show from November onwards, I don't think the colour is particularly relevant. Blue just seems to be "trendy" at the moment.

As far as Christmas lights are concerned they seem to have changed so much. The old screw in ones disappeared and then the push in bulbs appeared, not too bad as long as they were warm white and not ones that were so bright you needed sunglasses. Now it seems all the ones I look at are sort of large pea shapes. Then you have to check the colour of the wire to see that it's green and not black or white. Quite a few years ago John Lewis sold the push in type of bulb in a gold colour - they were lovely. We used to decorate a tree with gold baubles and those gold lights and put it in the window of the front room in our house that overlooked the street. Can't get replacement bulbs for that set now.

Now, I could very well be wrong, but I understood that blue xmas decs are used by Jewish people. Somehow, I think I got this impression from some American folk.

It depends when my husband is in a good enough mood to bring the tree in without the moaning - it's too big, I said we should have bought a smaller one - what do you mean it's lopsided? - I need to cut more of the bottom branches off to get it into the holder - etc. etc. Does anyone else have this problem? Although I seem to remember last year I said - Can we bring the tree in without any moans this year? He did manage it, so here's hoping!

Never a problem as we choose a tree that ' does ' suit us and it is then cut down, packed and put in the back of the car ... perfick

Trouble is Merv the Royal family like to shop in Holt and Burnham Market and you can't move when they arrive, Burnham is the ancestral home of Cheryl's family but when we called to see family we couldn't get within a mile of the place on Friday.
I don't know if anyone of note was there but Kate and Camilla are often seen in Holt and Burnham shopping and William and Kate now live in Anmer Hall just up the road so she might have nipped out for a bottle of milk.

I don't do Christmas shopping in either Holt or Burnham as they don't have a Pound Shop lol.
