Re: Bad publicity ?
back on track and to answer the question of bad publicity
I would think most sensible, informed people know that NV can strike anywhere and at any time but is more prevalent during winter, clue being in the name " Winter vomiting bug" and that it is also going to be worse in a confined space such as a ship, therefore I am at a loss to understand how an inanimate object such as a ship, can be responsible for the virus, so why should the outbreak of NV generate negative publicity, NV can strike in schools, hospitals , offices etc etc.
I think stories like this that appear in the press are either blatant scaremongering or people desperate for compensation, nothing more

It sure can. And one year the BBC was affected by an outbreak within their hallowed halls. I know this because I used to work there. But does anyone recall seeing it on the news, with headlines referring to "third world broadcaster" and "plague studio"? No I thought not!Dark Knight wrote:I am at a loss to understand how an inanimate object such as a ship, can be responsible for the virus, so why should the outbreak of NV generate negative publicity, NV can strike in schools, hospitals , offices etc etc.

No but it should have been, if the Noro outbreak had been at Sky it would have been lead item on the BBC 10:00pm news.Mervyn and Trish wrote:It sure can. And vice versa. Though actually neither is true. I've never seen any media outlet report an outbreak at it's or rival premises. They all like to perpetuate the myth that noro is a product of cursed cruise ships, third world hospitals or plague ridden nursing homes.

Possibly so ... I am not his Doctor nor do I know the nature of the pills that need to be taken but if he is genuinely at risk from Noro then ' Yes ' travel only when the risk is at it's lowest, go someplace safer else stay at home.towny44 wrote:... So, as Noro on board a cruise ship can strike anytime, your solution to this guys problem Moby is that he should never book a cruise holiday, is that correct?

The Golden Oldies are no doubt on a collection of tablets for a variety of conditions but I seriously doubt that many would die as a consequence of contracting Noro. As to when he goes on holiday, no idea but whenever it is he would surely be foolhardy to take undue risks.anniec wrote:... Looking at the demographic on board, the ships would be deserted if everyone took that approach; doubt any tablets work if one has a gastro problem.
Noro on board Arcadia in May this year. When can this poor bloke go on his hols?
It's doubtful any insurer would exclude his condition if he simply hopped on board a cruise ship in the winter. They may if he hopped on board after being warned.

He could have a live-in nurse. That might make it a bit more bearable !
