Yep, I registered this morning.

So if anyone is in need of my 12" organ your going to have to wait a bit longer for it......hopefully

I actually believe that everybody should be and especially so the Asian and Caribbean Community who it seems are the main benefactors of transplants ... if the BBC are correct in their reporting of this subject.

Yes, I do have a vested interest

. . . and I am very much in favour of the often debated "opt out" scenario

Valuable body organs are being incinerated/buried by the hour

I'm on the register too and have been for a long time. One of my friends is a Transplant Co-ordinator and after hearing some of what she has to do as part of her job I am very much in favour of the opt out scheme.

I'm on the register.

When I'm gone they can have whatever they like (subject to my next of kin's wishes).

Not sure they would want the liver though!

I have always believed that there should be an opt-OUT system rather than an opt-IN system. There have been so many claims of people saying 'I wish I had have known' or 'sorry but I wasn't thinking' that means perfectly good organs that could have helped others have been lost.

I hate and despise tattoos with a passion, but if one absolutely had to have one, the only one I'd agree to is "dismantle on death"

I've been on the register for more years than I care to remember and other than my eyes ( sorry I couldn't even consider this ) they can have anything they want.

I'm not sure I agree with an "opt out" system, whilst I agree that many people's lives could be saved if more organs were available I'm going to be cynical and ask just where is the money going to come from to do this !!

I've been registered for years....They can have a kidney, a bit of me liver or a digit now if they want it...Why should I care what they do with me once I have 'snuffed it'...

We are all on the register for everything..bar my youngest son... like you Jo doesnt want to donate his eyes.
His reasoning is...if people come to see him in his coffin he doesnt want to look odd.

No amount of talking is making him change his mind.
He works in an Opticians and his sisiter is an DO and they obviously deal with eyes and the problems.
But noooo ...'take everything else but leave my eyes' he says !!

They actually pad out the eye sockets so the deceased's face looks normal.

On the register, as well as noted on my driving licence. Keep meaning to start blood doning again, but due have to wait due to recent surgery. I try to re-cycle wherever possible, so would find it appropriate if any bit of me can used once I've outlived my overall usefulness.

Im not going to push it as he is willingly donating everything else.

The discussion got rather heated and tearful when we discussed the children.
One of my DIL's ,she is actually a nurse (sister) wants to do it, but cant bring herself to think about it. She says Yes, but doesnt want to discuss or talk about it.

So yes, all four grandchildren are now on the list and when the twins arrive they will be too.

Blimey DK, that's a bit extreme.

I'm a firm advocate of an opt-out system, but don't think your suggestion fits well with a free society.

Hi Dark Knightie,

It must be the valentine's effect (either that or I have had an extremely stressful day here) I'm confused. Are you saying that you think that the only thing to do is to have an opt out system, where the simple fact of the matter that a person just does not wish to be a donor counts for nothing?

Sorry to have to ask - just trying to get it clear. If I have got it right, apologies for asking; and I understand that you do have the right to your views.

I cannot honestly think of a single good reason for NOT donating your organs once you are dead
if the forum can convince me that there is a good reason for denying someone else a chance of a life after we die, please let me know
