When should Easter start?

Unread post by Mervyn and Trish »

Okay now the three month Christmas season has only a few weeks left to run, when should we get started on Easter? The Easter weekend begins on 25th March, but who will spot the first Easter Eggs in the shops?

I don't give a blast - however, when all this lark is going on, I'll be busy unpacking from one outing and getting ready for another. So, I'll plan my packing sort out for any days accordingly.

2016 - whoopee, bring it on!

Unless Jesus is willing to put in an apperiance and work a few miracles l'll settle for just having Bank holiday Monday off and do away with Easter altogether.

Never understood why they call it "good" Friday. It wasn't very good for Him. On the other hand, Sunday was a bit of a bummer for the other side

Its been Easter all year so far in Tesco, after I complained last year as to where the Hot X buns had gone in summer, they have been available all this year.

The only egg I have time for is one I have on a neck chain, and I only wear it on formal evenings - and yes, it does open and have a surprise inside!

Time for one of Ray's "Tight Wad DIY Tips" when my kids were young and money was a bit tight I saved the plastic insert that held their eggs, why you might ask ?.

Melt some chocolate of your choice in a bowl over a pan of hot water pour into each half of the insert tilting to make sure there is a thick coating on the inside of each insert.
Float inserts in a bowl of cold water ( the shock of the cold water makes the chocolate shrink) and leave to set.
Turn the insert dome shape up onto a clean surface and a gentle tap should release each half which you can wrap in alloy foil and voila you have an Easter egg.
The cut price Easter eggs in the super markets these days might make these eggs seem a waste of time but home made ones have thicker shells and somehow seem to taste better.
My grandkids love to make their own and personalise them with icing sugar names for Mum & Dad, you can now buy Easter egg moulds from cookery shops like Lakeland but mine were free and are still going 40 years on.

Try it, it can be quite "eggciting".

Can I have another "Blue Peter Badge" Stephen. ;)

Do you think I could get away with printing my own calendars that show Easter to be a week later ?, I could buy eggs at half price.

The reason I ask is that one year we thought we would take a tin of chocolate biscuits as a small gift to a friend. We went into the supermarket just after New Year and all the tins of biscuits had been whisked away and were nowhere to be seen. I have never seen Easter eggs, selection boxes etc being offered at reduced prices and being a self confessed chocoholic I would have hoped to sniff out a few bargains.

It looks like Keefy is taking more than his fair share.

I would imagine that Easter Eggs and Christmas food in general is bought on a "sale or return" basis by the supermarkets. So it will be down to the manufacturers to dispose of them - whatever can be viable salvaged and recycled (into Keefy's chocolates) will be but I suspect most will just get dumped.
