Anyone from Hull?
Hull has been named as the eighth best city in the world to visit this year as it prepares to become the UK City of Cuture in 2017.
Rough Guides placed the Yorkshire city ahead of Vancouver in Canada and the Indian city of Agra, home of the world-famous Taj Mahal, in its top 10 cities for 2016.
No other UK city made the top 10 list.
Hull, which is equidistant to London and Edinburgh, is undergoing a £25 million revamp and the city's chief executive Martin Green said it was 'going through great positive change'.
Rough Guides highlighted Hull for its 'old-time pubs, cobbled streets and eight excellent museums'.
World's Top 10 Cities for 2016:
1. Reykjavik, Iceland
2. Mexico City, Mexico
3. Seoul, South Korea
4. Ljubljana, Slovenia
5. Wroclaw, Poland
6. Nashville, USA
7. Amsterdam, Netherlands
8. Hull, UK
9. Vancouver, Canada
10. Agra, India
"Like a lot of cities of its type Hull has suffered economically, but I think there is a lot going on here to change that and it's not just about the fact we are the UK City of Culture in 17," said Green.

I'm sure that Hull started on it's upward trend only after a certain poster relocated there.
Seriously though, we went for a weekend there, and there is plenty to see and do. The pubs are rather good too.

I notice this poll relates to places to visit, rather than to live.
Like a visit to see the Sahara Desert or the wild wastes of the Antarctic might be interesting. But you wouldn't want to be there too long.
Just saying......

Re: Anyone from Hull?
Rough Guide just about sums it up, they built the Humber Bridge so you can make a quick exit, to be fair though there are places in most of the worlds major cities that I would not stay too long in and I was brought up on one of the roughest housing estates in the East Midlands.
There are many jokes about Liverpool being rough but I find the city and dockside areas a very pleasant place to spend a day or two with loads to see and do, and half the price of London.

It (Hull) must have radically improved since the last time we were there even as a stopping off point for an hour before catching the ferry.
I was taught to be cautious
