Super glue removal - amazing!

Not sure how I managed it but last night I was trying to mend a dining room chair from a doll's house which my grandaughter had managed to break and as I did it somehow I got glue onto one of the lenses of my glasses - no I wasn't wearing them at the time. I had heard of acetone being used to dissolve superglue but wasn't sure if that applied to plastic lenses as well as glass. So this morning I consulted my dear friend in times of crisis - Mr Google. Most postings about this subject did say don't put acetone onto plastic lenses as it may dissolve the surface of the plastic.

Then I read the most amazing suggestion - toothpaste! Several postings on this particular site said people had managed to remove superglue from plastic lenses using toothpaste - one mentioned Sensodyne specifically. Quite a few postings said this was successful, a few said it was rubbish. So I decided to have a go, particularly as I have some Sensodyne and I couldn't bear to keep looking at the world through this streak across one of my lenses. Well I rubbed a small amount of Sensodyne on the gluey bit - it was a fairly thin streak - for less than a minute when I could feel bits moving. Eventually I washed the paste off with warm water, dried the lens and magic - the glue had gone! I couldn't believe it was so easy. So if anyone else is as stupid as me that's the remedy!

Moby - there may well be such a thing but I need to see, preferably today. So hence looking to Google for a remedy and since it cost me absolutely nothing as I already had the toothpaste it was fantastic. I won't tell you what my husband said about it - the word 'stupid' was in there somewhere, mind you as today is our Wedding Anniversary he couldn't say very much - still waiting for the flowers though!

Some toothpaste can be quite searching and of course it is a mild abrasive, I have renovated a few bathrooms and kitchens in the past and often the previous owner has left some toothpaste behind. If the tiles were in fair condition with just discoulered grout I brush some toothpaste into the grout and leave it overnight, then brush it off with hot water and white vinegar voila.

If you have some minor scratches on car paintwork and don't have any rubbing in compound ( T-Cut) try rubbing brown sauce into the damaged area in circular movements, the sauce acts as a mild abrasive and rubs paint into the scratch. Wash with cold water then polish the area with normal car wax, it only works with minor scratches.

My daughter had someone go down her car door with their wing mirror leaving a black graze the length of her door, an egg cup full of brown sauce fetched the lot off and her husband doesn't know to this day what had happened.

Did you know if the sole plate of your iron is dirty you can clean it with a paracetamol tablet? I didn't but it works. Heat the iron on full then rub with a paracetamol or panadol tablet. Best to hold it in a pair of pliers. As if dissolves wipe off with paper towel or clean cloth.

Good tip foxy I wish this idea was available when I used to run our local colts side, I was coach, kit man, washer and ironer but Cheryl banned me from using her new iron because I ruined the previous one ironing over pvc motifs on the football shirts.

Sodium Bicarbonate has lots of cleaning uses and is an ingredient of a lot of toothpaste brands but when mixed with acid (as in vinegar) it produces carbon dioxide, how this solution cleans things I don't know but it does.

Will try it on our old iron Foxy.

Have just tried it. Baking powder paste.................... works brilliantly and easier than paracetamol!!!
Does anyone else use an old sock for removing insects from the front of the car? No need for expensive sprays.

Nice one Foxy I'll try it in the summer if it comes, Cheryl doesn't have problem with fly's on the front of her car she drives so slow they run into the back of her. lol

To get back on topic I use superglue when I do pen turning on my lathe, to give the wood a rock hard finish you put a squirt of superglue on a piece of towel and rub it on while the lathe is turning. It gives a sparkling gloss finish that lasts forever.

They certainly do Ray - both my granddaughters have earned them - the younger one has two!). Most people wouldn't be aware that having one gives a child up to aged 16 free entry to lots of attractions. My son took the family to Legoland and the girls didn't pay similarly Edinburgh zoo and the Royal Yacht Britannia - quite a saving for a family.
