My daily rant !

Unread post by barney »

I'm gobstacked to find that after months of major inconvenience and disruption to daily life due to Operation Stack in Kent, we know find we've got to pay for the bloomin thing.

The additional bill for policing was in the region of £2 million and Kent Police asked central Government if they would contribute.
Well, I expect that you can guess the answer.

Then just to rub salt in, it's back on at the moment

Rant approved.

Just get a few neighbours and go out and park on the motorway and see what sympathy you get!

Outrageous that you should pay for it. They should send the bill to the French who seem utterly incapable of maintaining law and order in their own country. Or perhaps we could blockade our ports and our end of the tunnel and see how they like it. Merde!

As part of the problem is being caused by the authorities in France appearing to fail to do their job (properly), maybe France should contribute?

I think it's ridiculous that the locals should have to pay for this.

Hi ! Meldrew back !!!!

It just gets worse for us down here in the 'Gateway'

Kent County council are now having to farm out vunerable local children to neighbouring authorities because they are over flowing with vunerable under age migrant children travelling alone.

We have well over a thousnad according to local news with more to come from the camps

Again, surley this is a national issue ????

it would make more sense to farm out the migrant children to other parts of the countryworld and keep the local children local

 Moby - very droll

Kent does seem to be taking the brunt of it all at the moment

Operation Stack paralizes the east of the county although there are talks (at last) to build a huge lorry park and charge them to use it

There are 11,000 crossings a day via the Tunnel & Ferries

One or two days backlog causes chaos

There were violent demos in Dover this weekend between EDL ? & Anti Facists ?
Again hundreds of cops called in.

It must be a brilliant place to be a burglar

Latest update on the Operation Stack debacle !

The Police Commissionar appealed directly to the Home Secretary to see sense on this matter.

Yep! I reckon you can guess her decision.

She insists that it all falls within the 'normal' police remit and the Council Tax payers of Kent must foot the bill.

The Commissionars response was, ' well, we all know where we stand now, don't we'

I think it will interesting to see what happens when Stack is next used.

That's why I like this forum Stephen, everyone speaks reasonably good English.

Not exactly about Operation Stack but along the same lines - do you think all this is going to affect the bookings on ferries across to France? We are going to France next July but as we live between Portsmouth and Southampton we will be going from Portsmouth to Cherbourg. Friends who are joining us were thinking of going Dover/Calais but now because of all the disruption last summer have now decided to make a slightly longer car journey and go from Portsmouth instead. I realise that people who live near Dover/Folkestone will still go from there but I wonder if those people who have a choice will prefer to book from Portsmouth.

They are forecasting another summer of chaos Carole, so I think they've made a good decision.

However, a new camp had sprung up at Dunkirk so it's possible it could spread down to Cherbourg as well.

They estimate about 10,000 currently living in camps and waiting for their chance to get in, by hook or by crook.

It makes our local news every day but I expect it rarely gets mentioned eslewhere.

You used to be able to get a very cheap cabin on the overnight ferry to Cherbourg, which has the advantage of starting the continental part of your journey first thing in the morning. I suspect the "immigrants" won't use Cherbourg/Le Havre because it's a longer crossing and therefore a greater chance of being detected during the voyage.

The French have lost at least one holiday booking. We were planning a couple of weeks over there this year or next but have put it on hold for now. Really don't fancy getting caught up in the chaos.

The day the French actually do anything to solve the problem, other than ushering them onto a ferry to England, will be a miracle. Every time they catch one trying to get onto a ferry or train illegally they should deport them to their country of origin. That would soon stop all the nonsense. Instead they take them a couple of miles up the road then release them to try again. C'est les cobblers.

I try to look at it through compassionate eyes, but everythime there is some Liberal bleeding heart on the TV bemoaning how shocking the situation is, I feel like shouting back, 'BUT THEY ARE IN FRANCE NOT SOME THIRD WORLD COUNTRY'

How any modern, progressive first world country like France can allow this within their borders in beyond my comprehension.

Last night, a Red Cross worker was saying that the conditions are the worst they've ever seen, anywhere.
In France !

And the Mayor of Calais shrugs her shoulders and says it's Britains fault ?
If we let them all in, the problem would go away?

Can you imagine walking down to your village green to find 1,000 tents pitched up and people living there.
