Top Gear

Unread post by Mervyn and Trish »

I suppose the BBC think hiring Matt LeBlanc for Top Gear will attract Friends fans to the show. But personally every time I've seen him interviewed I've found him terminally boring, so I'm less, rather than more, likely to watch the new version of the show. I will not, however, be forking out a subsciption to Amazon to watch the old trio either. But I guess that sooner or later it'll come out on DVD so maybe that's the future.

Not many takers for the job over here if they've had to go abroad to fill the post.

I wasn't a fan of the original show, but saw small excerpts occasionally. It won't be the same, it won't be as good. It'll be like Aero without the bubbles, stuffing without the sage & onion, or a holiday without the packing!

Did you restore the ejector seat to working condition?

Well, Chris Evans didn't last long. Probably not a surprise he has jumped ship in view of the media flak he has been taking, plus an accusation of "assault" from the 90's has surfaced now.

Monty Don's dog Nigel is favourite to take over

...probably with Matt le Bark as co-presenter !!

I hear they're keeping the rest of the team. Well they won't be keeping me. Matt le Blank lives up to his name. So boring......

Haven't even bothered with this new concoction. The BBC have well and truly shot themselves in the foot.

Too true. But they were between a rock and a hard place. Imagination the outcry if they let JC get away with assaulting someone. Cynically I wonder if he was aiming to get sacked. He's getting far more money now than he was.

Just ruminating on a few possible new names:

Flop Gear

Top Peer - if they can get Lord Lucan back to present it

Top Leer - if the accusations against Chris Evans are true

Perhaps the BBC should listen to Chris Evans quote, 'breath in, breath out and move on' and somehow get the old team back.
They can try and revive the show with whoever they like but it will never be the same. Clarkson, Hammond and May WERE Top Gear. Some say it was childish school boy behaviour by the presenters, but the millions of viewers that watched it week in week out can't all be wrong nor the hundreds of millions in revenue it brought in for the BBC.

I think that is what will eventually happen. You can only throw money at something for so long.

Yep, it has probably had its day - time to move on (which to the BBC means house-hunting or antiques !!)
