At last, common sense prevails . . .

A major Supermarket player are promoted "Wonky fruit and vegetables filled boxes"

Much cheaper than the perfection demands of UK grocery traders

Well done Mr Asda

Hi gfw....fair play to them and one can only hope this move will make others follow suit. Vegetable producers have seen their profits slashed due the imperfection policy that the big boys impose on them.

Regards

The best ever wonky fruit and veg are easily obtainable elsewhere in the EU; just across the channel in fact. So, why do ours have to be perfect?!

The best tomatoes are the ugly ones which may not even look ripe but are juicy and flavoursome. Almost as good as my Dad's home grown ones straight from the vine/stem/stalk.

The only drawback is that it might affect the customer base of local suppliers of weekly fruit & veg boxes who have been doing rather well in our area. This was highlighted on our local radio this morning .Other than that, bring on the wonky ones.

Wastage on carrots alone that are not straight and cucumbers the same is just plain wanton.

Don't get me on my hobby horse about perfectly formed and washed potatoes at silly prices in the supermarket that turn green in days. I buy a sack of potatoes from a local supplier for £7 for 52kg whereas a plastic bag of 2.5kg cost almost £3. Do the maths. Kept in the garage in the cool they last for months and there is very little wastage except when the weather turns warmer and a few at the bottom of the bag turn a little soft.

No vegetables should be wasted, wonky or otherwise.

Problem with ' Vege Boxes ' is that one has to conjure up meals to suit the content of the box, we wish to continue to buy veges that suit our planned meals.

So ... Mr Asda / Tesco / Sainsbugs ... sell the wonky ones at a reduced price and they will sell like hot cakes methinks.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Our home-grown veg are all pretty wonky anyway but they don't taste any worse because of it !

Certainly do, but I'm a bit disillusioned with our allotments at the moment as the pesky wabbits are eating absolutely everything !!

I don't have ferrets now but I think there are still some purse nets in the garden shed you can have then you can eat the wabbets that have your carrots inside them (wabbet and carrot stew) ready meal,

Tesco says au revoir to the traditional French curved croissant because Brits prefer them straight.

What a load of tosh, how am I going to get my curved cucumber on the straight uns.

The clue is in the name. If it were straight it would not be a croissant.

I rarely eat croissants, they break up far too much leaving crumbs everywhere, and not a patch on the taste of a soft wholemeal bap spread with butter and jam.
Additionally I dont think I have seen any crescent shaped ones on a cruise ship in years, they all seem to be the straight variety which are thicker in the muddle, so why all the fuss about something which seems to have died a natural death.

It's not just the carrots the little buggers are eating - it's chard, parsnips, kale, cabbages, brussels, onion and garlic tops, swede.....and more. The little sods don't touch the weeds, though !!
