Hammond said this morning on Radio 4 that every country with a free trade agreement with the EU HAS to abide by EU rules on free movement of people, regulations etc.
That was accepted by the interviewer who wanted to move on to the next question
How very bizarre and totally untrue, but unchallenged.
The same point was made on BBC's Breakfast Time and that to secure a trade agreement with the EU Norway, Switzerland and a n other did deffo have to agree to the free movement of EU residents .... ?
True or false ?
ps ... if true would that also apply to Canada, seems extremely unlikely.

True.
There's a big difference between a Single Market and Free Trade and in most cases these free trade agreements do not apply to every commodity.
I had a silly thought - it sprung from asking the question (apart from WW1 and WW2), are we 'in europe' to try and be 'altogether' like the USA?
So, if that is the case - and at one time I can remember somebody on tv saying that we should all be together in Europe so that we were 'equal' to the USA (!!!!!), then why don't the USA split up in to lots of smaller countries, all 'independent' but trading and agreeing with each other. If it's such a good idea, why don't the Americans do it?
Maybe, if the Americans did ever split up into smaller countries, we could permit some of them to become colonies?
See, I said it was a silly thought! Apart from anything else, one main benefit would be that we wouldn't have to endure all this 'primary election' nonsense going on in America at the moment!
The British Isles are in the continent of Europe.
Of that there is no dispute.
Where we differ from our neighbours is that we see the EU as a trading partnership but they see it as a political union project.
So, the ultimate aim of the EU is 'The united states of Europe' with political and monetary union.
Like the USA, every member 'state' would be slightly different but with one governing body. That is Brussels.
And that is what we will eventually get if we vote to stay in.
If that is how you see the future of the UK, then fine, vote Stay, but if you don't fancy being governed by Brussels, then you must vote Leave.
No successful country would currently vote to join that shambles. That says it all really.
I don't think it will make much difference either way Silver Shiney, but after we are long gone, future generations may ask why we didn't get out when we had the chance.
It's a social experiment that is ultimately doomed to failure and will drag us down with the rest. (in my opinion, that is)
I have seen or heard absolutely nothing to convince me to change my opinion and vote to stay.
In fact quite the opposite.
With the French saying there will be consequences, as if that is a negative and will scare people, I'd say I hope there will be consequeces and those consequences are positive for this country and that we halt the continual subsidy of the majority of EU countries.
It's like a game of cricket.
The Germans have the bats, the French have the wickets, the Italians have the bails and the UK has the ball.
All the other countries are fielders.
Obviously, if we take our ball home, they have to purchase a new ball or the game stops.
The cost of a new ball is currently £54 billion.
Of course they don't want us to leave.
If we do leave, they say they won't talk to us anymore and we'll have to find new friends to play with.
Except, they want and need what we've got. And that is money.
So if BMW wish to put trade tafiffs on their products, then we won't buy BMW and so on.
Trade is a two way street.

Barney, did you note that BMW are trying to put the frighteners on their UK employees, as you comment the status Quo is certainly in their best interest, they definitely do not want to lose any UK sales.

A major part of the problem towny, is that the status quo is not on the table.
The basic principal of the EU is further political union.
Dave says he has an opt out on this.
We'll see, won't we?
According to Google:
"British, Irish and Commonwealth citizens who live in the UK, along with Britons who have lived abroad for less than 15 years, will be able to vote.
As with other elections, only people aged 18 and over will be allowed to cast their vote in the nationwide referendum".

Thank you for the information:)
I should have thought to"Google" !!!
Todays papers state that the EU is to hold talks on how to speed up Turkey's accession to the EU in a bid to try and slow down the flow of asylum seeking migrants moving to EU countries.
So run that past me again how on earth is that supposed to work?
I read ages ago that Dave was keen on an early vote (June) because he feared this summers onslaught.
We get more info down here as it directly affects us but camps on now all along the coast of France and have also move up a far as Zebrugge in the north.
Very few Syrian refugees apparently, mainly Somalis, Vietnamese, Morrocans and various other African countries.
In one month 3,500 were sent back so just imagine how many get through and disappear into the black economy.
And this is all because the EU has no borders.
And still Call-Me-Dave and the rest waffle about anything other than this, which is the major concern for many people. Though of course in the eyes of the likes of Gordon Brown if you even mention it you're a bigot. Politicians on all sides are so put of touch with the worries of ordinary people.

But we have borders. That's why they're stuck over there.

Strangely its not my major concern, I am far more worried about the slide towards political and monetary union which I want no part of, but which I believe will be inevitable if we stay in the EU, even allowing for Dave's so called safeguards.
