ITWA Travel Writer

Unread post by Silver_Shiney »

I've not seen John here for some time and PM'd him a couple of weeks ago to see if he was alright.

Last night, I got this from his wife (she and John have given me permission to share this):
Hi Alan,

I am writing this for John as he has not had a great start to the year. He had to cancel our month on the Britannia in the Caribbean. We now treat each day as it comes, some are better than others. Most of his available time is spent writing before his eyesight goes or in him just waiting on the decision as whether or not to excise the next tumour.

He is trying to complete, write and illustrate, a series of children’s early reader picture books, for our grandson and complete his autobiography. He says that it is probably a waste of time because he thinks that no one will be interested in the perverted views of the son of a manse or of the twisted theology of his journey through the “Superconsciousness of the Quantum Mind.” His words!

However, I know that the years of research he has been involved in with people such as Dr Robert Dollar, minister of Dunfermline Abby and his Godfather; John Allegro of Manchester University and his work with him on the “Dead Sea Scrolls.” John was fortunate to actually take part in the last covert excavation in the late 1970’s; his work with Prof. Elain Pagels on the Nag Hammadi texts, known as the Gnostic Gospels and his research into Dr Michael Newton’s unique work on “Life between Lives” and superconsciousness, just shows the spectrum of knowledge and experiences that he has gained over the years and is a story that he just has to tell.

Thank you again for enquiring about him, it is most appreciated. He now goes between his bedroom, study and hospital getting out very rarely. I do hope that summer comes early this year. I sometimes wish that his cancer was aggressive and not so indolent, relentless and slow growing.

Thanks again and kind regards
Maureen
Please keep John and Maureen in your thoughts and prayers.
Alan

It never fails to amaze me, the courage that people show when faced with these debilitating life threatening illnesses. Strength to your arm ITWA, we are thinking of you.

Thanks for sharing this with us - funny thing I'd noticed John hadn't posted in some time and he and I exchange PMs from time to time particularly when we disagree strongly with someone's post and we would have a moan to each other. I am truly sorry to hear his health is not good - he has been through so much - I wish for him to have the strength to succeed in all that he wishes to do - a brave man indeed and a wonderfully supportive family too.

I wrote, re-wrote, started all over and yet remain lost for words ... I just find myself wishing there was something we could do to help.

Our thoughts are with you two too.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being
