Weekend away

Unread post by Whynd1 »

After a terrible few weeks I am now looking forward to a weekend away with a good friend at Warners in Cheshire. Have been before and its quite good value and plenty of things to do if you would like to. We did comment its a bit like a cruise on land as there are lots of quizzes and activities.

My elderly father who was let down in his house move at the last minute has now had an offer from a cash buyer so its all systems go again.
Miracles do happen !!

Just paid the balance for the next cruise on Arcadia to the Baltic so that is something else to look forward to, Booked a P and O excursion for St Petersbur. 2 days Simply St Petersburg as we are ladies on our own we thought an organised excursion would be for the best £222 for those who are interested minus 10% loyalty discount. Lunch is included both days one a packed lunch the other at a restaurant so that could be very interesting.

Take care all

I've been thinking of giving Warners a try when I'm a bit older, so let us know how you got on.

So the rumours of Parkhurst changing its name are true....

Back to the OP, Lindsey - have a great time and let us know how you got on, we all like reading reports on others' holidays and get recommendations for our future plans.

Yes, we tried for Winson Green, which is closer to us, but it was full the week we wanted.

Who are you calling older? But yes we will.

Actually it's worked out well. We're doing a week on Aurora, couple of nights in a hotel in Southampton, then over to the IOW. Packing logistics will be interesting. May need two carrier bags.

Doesn't the butler have a big enough yoke?

I've always associated Warners with Butlitz-type holiday camps so I'm very interested to hear how these breaks are.

Well we like P&O which we're often told is Butlins at sea so we should be okay. And it is adult only so we shouldn't be bothered by screaming children on the dodgems. So fingers crossed. We will report back if we survive. :sarcasm:

I thought it was just Ventura that was classed as Butlins at Sea?

We like the resorts on Hayling Island - either chalet type at Lakeside or hotel type at Sinah Warren - ideal for a short break, food is quite good and you take your choice if you join in the activities or not - just like cruising. We have been to Cricket St Thomas when the park was still open - not sure what it is like now Mr Blobby has moved on lol! Would just like to point out, it is probably cheaper to cruise for a week than visit a Warner's resort!

We are shortly off to HPB Tigh Mor in the Trossachs. We had a good time at Merlewood in Grange so we are looking forward to this one. We have never been to the Trossachs before but there semes plenty to do. Hopefully the weather will be kind to us. Later in the year we are booked in at St Brides and somewhere we are hoping to squeeze in a cruise hopefully to celebrate the Foxes winning the Premiership trophy (if my nerves hold out that long!!!).

Good luck with your dad's house sale Lindsey.

Hi All

Well had a lovely time at Alvaston Hall, since I was there last there have been some small changes which enhances your stay.
Weather behaved itself and managed to get out for some walks. Was too lazy in the end to swim. Entertainment on the Saturday night was brilliant a tribute group called Magic a type of ELO. I am not normally a fan of tribute groups but this group were exceptional and performed many of ELOs hits and some queen and by far the Queen stuff was very well received and got a standing ovation.
I do like the way at Alvaston Hall that you keep your dining table for the whole weekend and as the entertainment doesnt start until after 9pm it means you can come and go (mainly to the bar and back) and still have your table. The food is the mostly a carvery although there is a to the table menu. We noticed a good increase in staff numbers this visit and did not have to wait long to be served.

Rooms are a very good size with 6ft beds. Only one minus there is a large step down from the shower over the bath you do have to be a bit careful.

Overall a good visit only thing was on the train on the way home had a call to say my father had fallen down in the street and a neighbour had called an ambulance. So spend the rmainder of the afternoon and early evening in accident and emergency- luckily nothing broken just needed some stitches.
I need another break now !!!

Pleased to hear you had a good time at Alvaston Hall Lindsey. You'll have to pay another visit some time.
Sorry to hear about your dad though. He's not having much luck at the moment is he, but glad no bones broken and hope he is soon on the mend.

I love it there. Trish is not so keen. Nothing to do with quality, it's just not her favourite site for reasons I don't understand. But then me, understand women? No chance.
