Hello punters....2016 Grand National

Unread post by Onelife »

With the Grand National festival due to get under starter orders tomorrow l thought it a good time to give you all the information you will need to help send your local bookie on their next cruise!!

http://www.grand-national-guide.co.uk/g ... unners.php

Well picking the winner never gets any easier and if the standard of horses in this year's race is anything to go by you might be better off sticking with the tried and tested method of a pin to find the winner ...With the exception of a couple of the runners the rest all have realistic chances.

For those of you who need a little help the best handicapped horse in the race has to be 'The Last Samurai' as it would be carrying 12 lbs more had it been reassessed after its last win.

'Silvinico Conti' is another horse which appears well handicapped but also has that touch of 'class' (something you should be looking for in any of your selection.

Here are my selections....

(1) On his Own.....at the age of 12 his best years are behind him but still retains ability....However,  has fallen twice over these fences so don't get putting your shirt on it.

(2) Unioniste...fell at the 5th in last year's race but with a clear round should be staying on when the rest have had enough....much better weighted  this year.

(3) The last Samurai....

So what's your fancy?

What about Cue Card Onelife? Is it running? What is Deboinville riding. I've been following him on Ch4 racing all winter.

Good evening Frank...

Cue Card runs in the 2.50 at Aintree tomorrow and is favourite to make amends for his unlucky Gold Cup fall.....l think Djakadam will give him most to do.

Nico De Deboinville has 4 rides at Aintree tomorrow and l can understand why you follow him as he is a cracking jockey.

He is down to ride Hadrian's Approach in Saturdays National.....even though the horse is currently priced at 66/1 it's not without a chance.

Regards

Keith

Not with Nico aboard! Brilliant empathy with a horse, he was great on Sprinter Sacre. Do you know what has happened to Coneygree? Been looking out for that one and it doesn't seem to figure in anything this season.

Hi Frank.....Coneygree sustained a hock injury and spent several months at the Newmarket equine hospital but racing fans will be delighted to hear the horse is back home and according to his trainer.....

"Coneygree (Max) is well into his rehab and is now walking 30 minutes twice a day. Most people would choose to use a horse walker but Max is just too foolish, fresh and precious to be left to a machine! So instead I am riding him twice a day and while this might seem like boring stuff, he is the most incredibly agile and fast walker that I’ve ever had the pleasure to sit on and so I spend the time dreaming of more Gold Cups successes to come"

Mark Bradstock (trainer)

Ah...Sprinter Sacre. ...what a performance that was....had tears in my eyes and it wasn't because l backed a different horse in the Champion chase :)

Keith

If I were a betting man. IF!! I would be looking for a good stayer in the National, combined with a good jockey who knows exactly when to let it off the bridle. I love Ch 4 Racing in the National Hunt season, and I admire the jockeys who use the whip sparingly.

Sue is the daughter and grand daughter of real horse people. They use to look after Sir Alfred Munnings horses, and her Grandad is taking the rug off in Munnings' painting of The Red Prince Mare. Sue affection for the horses has rubbed off on me.

Hi qb....Hollywell tends to throw in the odd jumping mistake which doesn't bode well for his first run over these fences.....however he certainly has the class to win and if you go by his previous 177 handicap mark he is now also well handicapped.

The days when you could discount half the field have long go with only decent horses now making the cut.

I've gone for "The Romford Pele" named after former Arsenal player Ray Parlour...one of my favourites.
If I don't put a couple of quid on it and it gets placed I will kick myself.

If only I'd studied the runners, I do my Saturday radio show with a bloke called Mullins. How did I miss that?

Hi Sir Merv...don't take it to hard...Willie Mullins (trainer) had several runners in the National, so instead of it being an 1/1 money chance 'going by jockey selection' you would more than likely have chosen one that Mullins had trained which takes the odds out to about 5/1 chance of picking the winner.

Hope that goes some way in helping to ease your disappointment.

Spot on about Hollywell there OL. You'll be pleased to know I didn't hand over any of my hard-earned to Mr Ladbroke or any of his cronies !

Hi qb.....l didn't fare much better with my selection either....'On His Own' decided to sit on the Chair (fence) litrally. I think it fair to say that the torrential down pour an hour before the off scuppered a lot of the horses chances.....however all the horses came back safely so we're all winners in my book.

I confess I'm not a great fan of the National. It's far better than the days when it was last-chance saloon for all the no-hopers but it is still too much of a lottery for my liking.
