They did. It was a skill that was quite beyond me, so we hired a wheelchair and I propelled myself around the house, issuing instructions and marvelling quietly at the sheer enormity of what he didn't know.
Of course, he's forgotten how to do it all now .

Gill my dishwasher is a Miele. I love the cutlery drawer too. But my husband drives me mad with it, if I don't put all spoons together ,all knives together etc, he has move them about. I also love the 5 yr guarantee on it. I'm so sad aren't I ?
I'm afraid I'm the one with dishwasher cutlery OCD and have to have all the different pieces together. Tony bungs it in anyhow and not only does it take up more room, it isn't as easy to put away.
All this talk of Dysons and Mieles. We have just bought a Miele vacuum cleaner and if you have it on top notch it sucks so much you can't push it so plenty of power there if we need it (or so she tells me!!!).
My latest gadget is a milk frother. It's a wonderful piece of kit if you like proper froth on top of your coffee. Eat your heart out Costa!!!
We are in love with our new simple mobile phone - we have probably gone back years but this one, Alcatel One Touch, was cheap (£20), just needed to buy a £10 top up voucher and the lovely store manager in our local Vodaphone shop switched everything off that we didn't need and just left us with calls in and out, texting,camera and facility to set an alarm. Nice clear screen, big numbers so that we don't keep hitting the wrong numbers, totally idiot proof and he transferred over our SIM card so that we didn't lose our number.
Our son is horrified that we have taken such a step backwards but the touch screen one we had drove us nuts. We don't live on our phone like he does - his whole life is on there. We don't need internet and all those other things which people love. We just wanted an easy phone, pay as you go, so that we can just contact each other when we are out shopping and he goes in one shop and I wander off in another.
A massive step backwards but there has been much less swearing since we got our idiot-proof one.
Good for you Maureen. I am a great one for having a camera that takes pictures, a computer to use t'internet and a 'phone to make calls. It drives me bonkers to see people wandering the streets, hammering away at a touch screen, oblivious to everything around them !
I'm in love with a new macro 105 lens that I've just got - and I'm looking forward to increasing our cruising pleasure on some upcoming cruises. Just need to get in some practice and discipline myself to selecting the correct lens for the start of the excursion or shore visit days.
I used to love my mobile, but I'm due for a new one soon, and I definitely want one with better memory and a better camera facility.
Household stuff - I think of the vacuum etc as 'alternative' exercise stuff, but mostly I try not to think about it! It does get used, before you comment, but I just think of nicer activities whilst I'm at it.
Technological advances don't always benefit users. The demise of the cassette (via Walkman) & cd (via Discman) have severely hindered the level of enjoyment provided by music & audio books which are now increasingly only available by download. People with sight problems & arthritic fingers really can't cope with touch screen technology and so are being edged out of the market. Pure used to manufacture a brilliant radio which 'talked' to tell you which programme you were tuning to ( it was called the Sonus) but it has been discontinued.
I would therefore credit all of the aforementioned devices ( for my relative) as being 'in love with'.
