iPads and Planes

Unread post by david63 »

Just a quick question for anyone who has flown recently.

When going through airport security do you have to take your iPad out of your bag in the same way as a laptop, or are they treated more akin to an Ereader?

Last time we flew, I was asked to take my Blackberry out and send it through separately.

Had to take iPad out at Heathrow last time I flew to my son who lives in Luxembourg and likewise security there asked for it to be taken out and put on tray to go through scanner.

Looks like I am outnumbered - but I flew most recently ex-LGW ON 1st Feb and ex-BGI 15th Feb :P and definitely sated in my handbag both times. Also took it out with me on most port days as had 16 books on it and still stayed in handbag or beach bag - never even considered I may need to take it out and scan separately.

Jenni it's probably me - I always set off the alarms and have to be frisked - I must look suspicious! I last visited my son in September 2012 so may be more relaxed now - let you know after my next visit in March.

Why is it that when it comes to frisking I never get the young attractive looking female .. I always get frisked by the fat sweaty bald ugly looking male ?

That made me laugh suespud, I was frisked by an Amazonian woman at Liverpool Airport in November, I think I would have stripped naked if she had told me to (not a pretty sight) she was that scary... :D

I had to take my ipad out of my hand luggage when boarding the Oceana at Southampton. I never thought of it as a laptop but the security woman did.

Just got back from trip to Luxembourg - both ways had to take iPad out of bag - no consistency - all airports have different rules - suppose we should be grateful that security is still a priority. I'm looking forward to taking my iPad out of bag on 4 April at Southampton 'cos it means I'm going on cruise!!
