With their various outlets I'd be surprised if Boundary Mill have fewer than 250 FTE staff, but maybe they do. Or perhaps they were just taking pity on Towny?

I think that paper type bags are free well they were at Laura Ashley yesterday unlike the clothes even with 50% off.

We have a local designer outlet near us and the bags are free there as well. One place I got something from said that they didn't have enough employee's and also paper bags were exempt...lots of free advertising as mentioned in previous posts.

Perhaps Boundary Mill have HQ staff but the rest are ' franchisees ' so don't count ... just saying.

Boundary Mill did initially charge for bags so they obviously felt the legislation covered them. However the comment from the checkout staff was that they were no longer charging for bags, this was made to a customer next to me but as I had brought bags I did not question my assistant, so I am unable to clarify any further.

What I find strange is:

in 2011 Wales started charging for carrier bags, in 2013 Northern Ireland joined the scheme and in 2014 Scotland also started.

On 5 October 2015 England joined in and they are still talking about it.

have still not bought a carrier bag yet visited our local fruit and veg shop it only employs 4 people the first time the lady serving asked if I would like a carrier free to carry my produce gratefully accepted the next visit a week later a young lad told me they don,t give free carrier bags and the only way I would get one is if I paid 5p so I gave him back the produce I was buying and told him I would not use the shop again there loss

I guess there will be many small shops that don't have to legally charge for a bag, but who now choose to do so.

I understand that the charge in the large shops goes to charity. Perhaps where smaller ones are imposing a similar charge we should ask which charity they're supporting.

I find a trolley easier. Just send the good lady ahead first with something unpaid and cheap and cheerful to set the alarm off and create a diversion while I leg it with the hoard.

Duff goods. My Sainsbury's one is still in good order. And even at 5p it's a bag for life. They give me a new one if it wears out.

I used to have an under stairs cupboard full of carrier bags and I now have an under stairs cupboard full of 'bags for life.'

I actually did an audit last week end and found that we had thirty seven of the bloomin things

We are now using them as bin bags

Our problem being that we don't have a shopping routine and with both working full time, we tend to run in to the supermarket as required and never seem to have bags with us.
