Venice

Unread post by suespud »

On Sunday we are flying to Venice for 4 nights and then getting the train to Florence for 3 nights, very excited, its Alex's 60th birthday treat, along with his Go Pro camera thingy with ALL the bells and whistles that you can get for it
Anyway...I have booked a private water taxi to take us from the aiport to the hotel.. and I have also booked a trip on a Venetian Galleon for dinner, it goes round the Lagoon and the islands etc..that looks great fun with a bottle of fizzy and Red wine included and a live band. https://www.getyourguide.co.uk/venice-l ... er-t40977/
BUT....after reading the reviews some people said they got sea sick on the Galleon!!
I do get travel sickness .. normally take Kwells, but what are the best tablets to take for sea sickness?
Never had it on our cruises apart from once going through BOB in a gale force 9 storm.

Crossing the Venetian lagoon in most type of boat seems to herald a bob-bob-bobbing sensation ... in the dark it seems to be a lot worse  .

Deffo Kwells for you my girl
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

Hi Sue.....Alex's birthday treat sounds fantastic!!

Both me and my wife suffer from sea sickness, she worse than me hence the reason we don't cruise that often.

I can't offer much help other than what you already know, however l have heard it mentioned that taking sea sickness tablets 12+ hours before your journey can be helpful as you build up a better resistance to the symptoms.....The only down side to this is that you will be half asleep during Alex's Birthday treat.....best have a trial run first and see how they effect you.

Regards

I've tried them all at one time or another, Kwells, Sturgeon, Avomine not that I get sea sick it is more a preventative thing  the one I've found best of all is Boots own make and whilst they say you shouldn't drink with them it doesn't affect me.

Just make sure you take them a couple of hours before you embark on the Galleon so they are in your system working

Sue

I have heard that taking a third person along to help steady the unfortunates works very well.........as they can hold the bucket steady while checking the wind direction :!:

I am of course always at your service.......for a minimal fee ;)

I think there's a degree of psychology too - I used to take Boots travel calm, but they stopped making them. I couldn't find another brand with that active ingredient, so I went over to Sturgeron - which I didn't like much.

Boots have now brought out a new 'own brand' tablet which works a treat - though curiously it has the same active ingredient as sturgeron!

take them in advance as a preventative - I think the label says 2 or 4 hours - can't remember offhand

Sturgeon works for us two too.

Also ... may I advise you to take hold and/or hand luggage that have wheels as a walk of some 400 yards will / may be required due to upgrading works.

Included in the private water taxi cost is a meet and greet at the airport and porterage to the boat... and then to our hotel :D
my new suitcase does have wheels..as we will be making our own way to the train station to get to Florence.

Bought Boots travel sickness tablets.
Thanks for advice everyone.

well sitting here, waiting to get properly dressed, taxi coming at 11am to to take us to airport.
What a week though....I had a 4 hour sedated dentist apt on Tuesday..3 root canal filling and 4 old crowns taken out. Wasn't an easy job. Got temps in till 7 the June, so no red wine for me in Italy!!
Have to stick to fizzy stuff...it's a hard life.

Then had an abscess develop on thursday morning...back to dentist yesterday...all is fine.

I am very excited !!!

Hotels been checked again on TA....looking good .

Another vote for Boots own tablets. I take them early and still drink alcohol. The only time they make me tired is if I leave it too late and the motion sickness symptoms have started. I find then that 1/2 nap and I wake up raring to go. Sounds a fabulous trip and look forward to hearing about it on your return.
