You should not be eating this or doing that,
so say the experts. Eating the poor old spud more than four times a week could be harmful and contribute to the condition that causes strokes and heart attacks. So a change of diet ? the Gov advice is we should be eating meals of a starchy carbohydrate and spuds are full of it, but the dear old spud causes hypertension or to put it their way “The postprandial hyperglycaemia that follows a high glycaemic load meal has been associated with endothelial dysfunction, oxidative stress, and inflammation, all potentially important mechanisms in the development of hypertension,” well that's clear.
And if you floss, Now, one leading expert has warned that if not performed correctly, flossing can actually do more harm than good.

That's why I tend to disregard everything Ray, and eat and drink exactly what I want, but in reasonable quantities.

Who remembers, a few years ago, they said butter was bad for you? Then came the campaign tagline "It's welcome back to butter!" - it's good for you after all. Then it was bad for you again. Now I'm not sure where we stand with it.
Masterchef frequently criticise contestants for not seasoning their dishes properly. When our kids were born, we were told that, when weaning, we mustn't put salt in the food as their systems hadn't yet developed to process it. Later we heard that there's enough natural salt in food to negate the need to add extra. Yes, sometimes some foods do need a bit added, but we very rarely put salt in our food when we're cooking.
Back in the 1800s, our founder was advised by his doctor to take up cigar smoking for the sake of his chest (the boss declined to do so) - we now all now what tosh that advice was.

1. The Japanese eat very little fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
2. The Mexicans eat a lot of fat and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
3. The Japanese drink very little red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans
4. The Italians drink excessive amounts of red wine and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
5. The Germans drink a lot of beers and eat lots of sausages and fats and suffer fewer heart attacks than the British or Americans.
CONCLUSION: Eat and drink what you like. Speaking English is apparently what kills you.

And what happens if you follow all this advice, and it works? A close relative, nearly 93, has dementia; this has turned a lovely, placid, delightful, intelligent person into a bad-tempered, angry, tactless and rude old lady, currently under threat of removal from her current care home for disruptive behaviour. She takes tablets for type 2 diabetes, raised BP, raised cholesterol and goodness knows what else, all of which keep her 'healthy', and the staff monitor her diet to ensure her sugar levels are kept at the correct level.
All her contemporaries are either dead or suffering a similar fate; there is no worthwhile help available in very old age, we are not deluged by funding or assistance of any sort, and the old are made to feel they are a bed-blocking nuisance (if they're lucky enough to get a bed).
Sorry about the rant - a little raw at present.

If I'm being honest here, the only time I get to eat that is on a cruise. The best I get at home is a toasted bacon sarny.

I follow a low salt diet to manage Meniere's Disease.
Two years ago, when I was having vertigo attacks, I kept a vertigo diary. When I was diagnosed with Meniere's, my vertigo diary made perfect sense. All my vertigo attacks were within two days of having eaten out at a restaurant, when I would have had far more salt than normal.
After that, I didn't eat out for a year - but I have started going to restaurants again, but I have to be very careful about what I eat and make sure they're not adding additional salt. Some chain restaurants have their nutritional information online, and this is very helpful as I can make informed choices.
Apart from the salt, I just eat a balanced diet.
