I thought that "rule" currently applied, unless the fouled player is left on the ground possibly injured.oldbluefox wrote:I rather like the stance taken in rugby whereby the advantage rule is played but if no advantage is gained play is brought back.

Do you want to tell Mr Clattenburg or shall I?
Rugby referees never seem to have any trouble with it. Perhaps they should have a word in his shell-like.
Isn't the end of season an exciting time at all levels of the game - full of excitement and disappointment, disastrous runs of form and amazing escapes and loads of teams facing the hope of promotion to the next level or finding the chances snatched from them by a missed penalty and a lucky punt upfield leading to some ugly bruiser knocking the ball in, Moby!!!
I do like the playoffs for the excitement it creates further down the table as opposed to some teams having little to play for as the season draws to a close.

Re: Football thread 2015/2016
A belated congratulations to the Foxes on winning the Premiership title, my wife and I were in Mallorca when Spurs played Chelsea and went to a local bar to watch the match, at half time with the score at 2-0 to Spurs I said to OH that we would have to come back on Saturday to see if Leicester beat Everton as Chelsea don't look like scoring. Watching the news in the morning all the talk was about Leicester winning the title and I thought how can that be ?, then they showed the Chelsea come back to 2-2.
It was announced tonight that the ex Leicester boss Nigel Pearson is the next Derby manager, I wish him good luck as he used to live next door to me as a kid but I hope we are higher in the league than the sheep next season.

Thank you Raybo. It would be nice to have more Midlands teams in the Prem. Local derbies always add a little extra spice to the season. It can get a little lonely for us in the East Midlands.
The only time I went to the City Ground was in my youth. We travelled by train and the fog was so thick we got lost and hadn't a clue where we were!!! Needless to say the match was postponed. You don't get pea-soupers like that nowadays.

Congratulations to Wimbledon on their promotion.
Considering how they lost their football club when it relocated to Milton Keynes it's a rags to riches story for those who formed a new Wimbledon FC, started again in amateur football with spectators sitting on hay bales and working their way back up through the leagues to where they stand today. Good luck to them!!!

Is it just me, or is there not as much excitement about Euro 16 as there seems to have been about previous Euros or World Cups? In the past, we have seen houses bedecked with banners and cars festooned with flags. This time, all I have seen is one car. Maybe it will be a slow burner - perhaps we are all too used to UK interest fading after week 1 !
