PPC and more..

Unread post by suespud »

Just got notification from the NHS about my prepayment certificate for my prescriptions...it runs out in July...but as I am 60 in the next few months they suggest I get a 3 month PPC..as I don't pay for them when I'm 60 !!
I didn't realise that....I thought I paid till I got my pension at 67.
I am pleased I guess...but then made me think I am getting old...I am really going to be 60 soon!!

My OH turned 60 last Monday and today he got a letter about Bowel Cancer Screening for 60-69 year olds :o

Ohh and top it all..I got a txt reminder from my dentist about an apt next week.

Nothing like gentle reminders to make a person feel old !!

And here in Wales we get a free bus pass at 60 too. I have had one now for nearly 3 years - and used it twice! But it was very useful on those occasions, though I would HATE anyone to see the awful photo of me on it!

I London you can apply for a 60+ oyster ( free travel) that tides you over til you get your freedom pass on reaching pension age (for women - not sure what age for men - cos OH has had a freedom pass for a while and isn't 65 yet)

you are obviously very refined - in this house it's the sh1t kit !!

It's another 4 years until I'm 60, and I'm fully expecting them to move the goalposts on free prescriptions before then

I already get free eye tests as my mum had glaucoma

Here in Nottingham we have a Flightlink bus to the airport and we can use our bus pass on it, another bonus is that our sons office is on the outskirts of the airport so he picks our cases up the night before and we text him just before we arrive. On our return we text him again and our cases are picked up, nice and easy not even hand luggage to carry.

Don't forget the winter fuel payment at 60 too, we poor old pensioners need all the help we can get. ;)

That one is linked to the state pension age for a woman - in recent years the women's pension age has been rising from 60 to gradually become the same as the men's state pension age

My husband is 65 in October, and he's been getting the winter fuel payment since he was about 62, which was the state pension age for a woman born on the same day as him.

State pension age for everyone, male and female, born after late 1954' will be 66, so that will be the date that they are eligible for the winter fuel allowance.

I didn't know that Gill, I was getting the WFP from the age of 60 although I was still working but I don't feel guilty after 50 years of continual employment without a penny from the state.

Here we also have an invitation for men to attend for an AAA,(abdominal aortic aneurism), test once they reach 65. Not for the ladies though :(

Yes Wolfie here too, a bit like the scan a pregnant woman has with the gel and a probe thingy. Mine was done in February and I think the gel must have come on a milk float it was freezing I nearly had a heart attack.

All in a days work if you are a pregnant lady Raybo!!! Men are such wimps when it is such a non invasive procedure. Just imagine your man boobs and nether regions being invaded as us' laydees' have to undergo. ;)

I qualified for WFP once I qualified for a pension - aged 62 and three quarters

Correct if I'm wrong, but doesn't the WFP total remain the same once the second person qualifies? As I understand it, it just gets split between the two partners?

I don't get my state pension until next March - though have my company and private pensions now - so Tony gets £200 WFP until I quality, when we get £100 each.

Or have I got it wrong?

That's how I understand it. Roll on July 2017, when I join you in qualifying for all these goodies  .

that's correct. So I didn't bother to claim it - it'd end up in the same bank account either way

That's correct Gill, I was paid £200 until Cheryl reached her pension age and then it was split but like Meg we have it go into a joint account anyway.
