Stirring Music

Unread post by Ranchi »

We were in the car last evening listening to the radio when 'Sing something simple' (Mike Sammes Singers)was mentioned. My wife immediately said 'ugh Sunday night'. Although we had never mentioned it before, I realised that she shared my total dislike of that piece of music. To me it recalled horrible feelings of the end of the weekend, having to go to the kitchen to complete my homework ( every week I promised myself to do homework on a Friday night....) and the thought of school the next day.
We met some friends later on and they said they shared the same feelings.

So my question is; which pieces of music stir strong emotions in you (positive or negative) and with what do you associate those tunes?

Sunday nights - Sing Something Simple - Cliff Adams and the Cliff Adams Singers for the same reasons as you Ranchi with the exception that I was starting my homework ready for handing in the next day. Sunday night was depressing enough with the joys of the weekend behind me and another week of school ahead of me and Sing Something Simple reminding me that I could put the dreaded homework off any longer.
I was taught to be cautious

Same here Ranchi, the opening music to Sing Something Simple meant if we opened our mouths while this program was on we would get a clip round the ear from our mum.

This was bad enough but our ears were still ringing from the clout from dad Saturday teatime when the football results were being transmitted and the intro to that is still in memory.

I seem to remember a rather offensive football chant from the 60's/70's to the tune of Sing Something Simple....but we'd better not go there !

A nice little ditty, almost makes want to get the deck chair and ice cream out.
