Re: The EU - what next?
Only on 26 posts and gone off topic already!!! Who do we blame?
Back on track...................... I see Gladys Pugh of Plaid Cymru is now calling for independence for Wales as a consequence of the Brexit vote. Now can somebody remind her that the good people of Wales voted for Brexit!!! What planet do these people inhabit?
I see the FTSE 100 has now risen above the pre-Brexit level and analysts are predicting the pound will recover against the euro but still struggles against the dollar.
Perhaps now is a good time to be buying British................

Welcome back from the bunker, Frank !
I am not sure Ms May is the perfect PM but I cannot see a credible alternative amongst that lot. At least she is saying that she would honour the "Brexit" vote. Whichever side you are on, the result of the referendum was clear and it is absolutely right that the views of the majority who voted are respected.

Having given a bit of thought to the current situation (having sorted out stuff which affects me personally), I can't see the point in to-ing and fro-ing and getting all wound up.
So, here is my plan - cruises booked, several visits to the Med in the mix. The EU will be as foreign (or not) as it always was, I will continue to distrust and like their currency, and apart from the dreaded packing (and unpacking), I'm going to keep calm and carry on regardless.
Everyone else can get on with it, life's too short to worry about things beyond my control.

I've just seen Boris who appears to have a deep wound in his back....he'll struggle to recover from this blow.
Like Frank..listened to Theresa May this morning and l thought she came across rather well.
So it will be a May - Gove final then?

Let's be honest - given a choice between Ms May, Boris and Gove, what option is there ?!

I agree Foxy but the time to be buying British was a long while ago, the time to manufacture British was a long while ago, the time for being British was a long while ago and the time for getting back to being British again is now.oldbluefox wrote:Only on 26 posts and gone off topic already!!! I think as a nation we went into Europe with our eyes shut and it has taken us 40 years to wake up,It's going to be hard especially with parts of Britain wanting to be foreigners but the future is now 100% in our hands.
I have always tried to buy British and not just from a patriotic point of view but I always considered British products to be of a good and safe quality but over the years many of the names I trusted have been gobbled up and lost forever to cheaper and mostly inferior products from abroad.
I now drive a foreign car and why is that ?, there isn't a British owned car on the market that is suitable for my needs.

I'm not surprised - do you remember I said yesterday that Boris was a reluctant candidate? From the country's point of view anyway - I'm sure it's for the best !

Re: The EU - what next?
He is running true to form Gill. I would say he is finished as a serious politician now. I very much want Theresa May to win. I have a feeling she is the best person to represent me in any negotiations and world politics. She will "tell it like it is" with some gravitas. I can only hope the very right wing Tories don't start undermining her, as they have done Major and Cameron.Gill W wrote:My God, you literally couldn't make t up.

Re: The EU - what next?
I think there have been some behind-the-scenes machinations going on with the Tories. It seems to me that they want to present a competitive leadership election to the general public, but one which will only have one winner - and a clear winner at that, so that we all think the party is totally unified behind Theresa May sorry, the new leader !!

Re: The EU - what next?
The currency markets hate uncertainty. While the pound is certainly struggling against the dollar at the moment, the next bout of uncertainty will come in the run-up to the US presidential elections, which will almost certainly cause the dollar to fall against other currencies.oldbluefox wrote:

Yes, but I think Bojo had a target printed on his back! Anyway she was right, lots of neutral critics have said he is weak when it comes to focus and mastering the detail. It may become ABTM in the Tory party now, who knows. The shire ladies may be the final arbiters; I reckon Liam Fox is a strong candidate among them.Stephen wrote:One down several to GO!
