Amending user name?

Is there any way I can amend my user name.?

A new member has recently registered with a username that is almost identical to mine.
I would therefore like to make a few amendments to my own. I have been on the Edit Profile page but it doesnt seem to accept any changes
to the username on there.

Any advice would be appreciated
