I see Osborn quoted today as saying he will accept the outcome of the referendum. Very generous of him. And his p45 as soon as possible I hope. If he or CMD doesn't like the result they only have themselves to blame. They decided to have it to try to head of UKIP, screwed up the EU renegotiation and the remain campaign and misjudged totally the mood of the country. And voila.

Hi Stephen....as much as l dislike the conservative party l think Theresa May is the person for the top job. She has a wealth of experience and she doesn't strike me as the kind of person who would appoint on a friends come first basis as was the case with Cameron and his click. I like Andrea Leadsom but l'm not convinced that she has enough ministerial experience for the job.....she may well be a good choice to head our Brexit committee. I hope Gesela Stuart finds a position within the EU exit committee although l'm rather surprised she's not a contender as the next new labour leader ....that's if they have a party by the end of this week.Stephen wrote:I agree, but with who. If Theresa dose make it all the way she'll need to have balls of steal when she reshuffles her cabinet...out with the old in with the new has to be the way forward.

He will doubtless get an EU pension, or do you think that might also end with Brexit, if so no wonder Neil Kinnock was apoplectic at the Leave vote.david63 wrote:Always struck me as a bit strange that someone would devote a large part of their life campaigning themselves out of a job!

Now, as a conservative voter, if Gisela Stuart were to become Labour leader that would worry me, because she could possibly win an election; in fact I liked her so much in the Leave campaign that she might persuade me to vote Labour.Onelife wrote:Hi Stephen....as much as l dislike the conservative party l think Theresa May is the person for the top job. Re: The EU - what next?
Farage did what he set out to do, he made immigration a topic for discussion, not hidden behind the catch all of racism. He helped to get the UK to vote to leave Europe and he also made people aware of what a gravy train the EU really is
so in terms of a political legacy he did exactly what he set out to do, shame the same cannot be said for Cameron, Corbyn and the rest of them
The main reason Farage is so vilified is because he showed Westminster and it's lickspittles just how out of touch they were with the majority of the UK and that the UK was little more than an indentured slave to Europe
Immigration is not a dirty word, it is obviously a real concern to many , as shown by the MAJORITY voting to leave the EU and take back our control over our borders, so whilst the chattering middle class, moan and gripe continually about the result, Farage did what he set out to do and was honest about what he wanted to do, which is a miracle as most politicians are corrupt lying half wits
Going forward the UK political map has been shredded and it will need a concerted effort by all politicians to get a workable deal and a strong economy, so maybe it is time the self serving, lying oafs we have now were culled and a new more transparent politician stood up to take their place, maybe that way we can regain trust and respect for our so called leaders ???

Hi towny....I think the labour party is dead in the water no matter who leads the party into the next election, but hey, if there is any chance of them keeping their heads above water then Gisela Stuart has a presence about her (leadership qualities) that installs confidence. I personally hope she jumps ship as her talent is wasted in a party that has totally lost its way.towny44 wrote:Now, as a conservative voter, if Gisela Stuart were to become Labour leader that would worry me, because she could possibly win an election; in fact I liked her so much in the Leave campaign that she might persuade me to vote Labour.Onelife wrote:Hi Stephen....as much as l dislike the conservative party l think Theresa May is the person for the top job. Re: The EU - what next?
Some quite good points there DK.
IMO the major problem with our government is the Whip system, whilst individual MP's might listen to constituents and try to help them and even sympathise with their views, when it comes to voting they have to follow the party line.
So if they want to climb the greasy pole they have to kowtow or else.

I agree, every politician should be allowed to vote with their conscience not the way they are told to by some grandee. When you analize the results , it is obvious that those benefitting most from the EU system wanted to stay..me ,me, me and those disenfranchised by Westminster and those who felt left behind when the gravy train left the station, voted to leave
Its no coincidence that the areas with the least input from central government ,voted most strongly to leave and also to show their distrust and distaste for the politicians who are supposedly representing our interests.

DN you did not mention the press barons and the leaders of the multinationals who have our politicians jumping to their tunes if they wish to stay elected.

...........which is why we need a new transparency in politicians which serves its constituents, rather than the party Whip and their wealthy friends who have only personal self interest at heart.Ray Scully wrote:DN you did not mention the press barons and the leaders of the multinationals who have our politicians jumping to their tunes if they wish to stay elected.

I do wonder if Mr Farage resignation is a way of positioning himself for a seat around the Brexit negotiating table? It may not be a silly an idea as you may think.....better to have him in the fold rather than him shooting blind as a MEP?

All the moaning is from the "I am not a bad loser" Remain camp. Many in the Leave faction say they would have accepted the result had it gone the other way but I just wonder how true that is ?!

As they say QB, the victors write the history, the losers just whine
we will never know if the leave camp would have been such voracious critics as the remain camp are and it doesn't matter either way, the vote was cast and we are where we are

Any effect politicians gave on our history will be mainly coincidental. The Global businesses and banks call the shots these days.

I don't know why the Tories are continuing the selection process for a new leader - Mrs May had more votes that the others put together.

Yes, but as it's a foregone conclusion, isn't it a waste of time? With Messrs Fox and Crabb both backing Mrs May, there's no way either Mrs Leadsom or Mrs Gove's little boy can get anywhere close.
