I've lost count of the times I've uninstalled this KB, only for it to come back a few days later.

I have had Win 10 installed for almost 10 months now with few if any problems, and it is much faster to load and operate than the old Win 7 was, and my web browser seems more stable as well, either Firefox or Chrome.
I don't use all the functionality but for e-mail, web surfing, on line shopping and banking it is ideal and virtually identical to the old system, so makes for a simple transition.
My advice for those waverers is take the plunge, at least its likely to have a longer operational life than 7 or 8.

Looks like SD will have to add deleting KB whatnot to her weekly schedule of jobs!

Do you think it might lessen once it becomes 'paid for' ( end of this month or praps next month)?

dunno - I've be surprised if they did start charging for it, despite the hype and pressure to get everyone to download and install now.

I had Windows 10 sitting on my PC waiting to install just before we went on our recent cruise, so I left it there.

Meanwhile I asked a friend to get me a couple of books on Windows 10, from the ' In easy Steps ' series. When we got back I read them cover to cover and noted all the things that I needed to do pre installation and all the things that I was going to change once it had installed.

On the point raised this publication stresses the importance of uninstalling Anti Virus software as it can be a major cause of corrupted installations where Windows is concerned.

After the install it had left absolutely everything in tact bar a Mahjongg program, I use Windows Live for e-mails.

I do not like the apps concept nor do I like the Edge Browser so have defaulted to Internet Explorer instead, this is for a desktop PC rather than a tablet by the way.

Something that might be of interest Moby if you liked the way Windows 7 looked. I don't use it myself as I have kept to Windows 7 but a relative uses it without problems. You are still running Windows 10 but with a Windows 7 overcoat.

Thanks, Stephen, looks like that is the way to go. It's a shame that MS won't give us the option of retaining the earlier interface (I still prefer the 3D buttons of Windows 3.1) and as for the "ribbon" menus in Office...

I waste so much time looking for commands since we were obliged to "upgrade" to Office 2013 and 2016 - in particular, Word's new way of doing headers and footers is not at all easy to use. Someone as Redmond had too much time on his hands and this is a case of "look what I can make it do" rather than making a decent product better. It's a solution in search of a problem.

Thanks, I will look into that but firstly I need a recovery disk and then to take a mirror image of my settings etc within W10 onto an external drive just in case I need to do ( have done ) a clean install for whatever reason.

I have been using Start 10 ever since I upgraded to Win 10 and it makes life so much easier - there is a downside, it costs $5

Bullets have been bitten and I've upgraded to Win 10. The software house said that, for the time being, their software does run under it but it's not supported, a new version that is tested will be released in a couple of months time.

My gripe now is that Redmond's finest have deleted the built-in games. Anyone know where I can get hold of Mahjongg, Freecell and Spider Solitaire, please?

Not sure now where I found the app but I am using Spider Solitaire HD, it must be in Google games apps somewhere.

PS Just found them they are all in Windows Store, which is that carrier bag icon on your taskbar, free ones as well as pay for ones.

I have the original Mahjongg software but it won't load ... Freecell and Spider ( plus three more ) can be located within ' All Apps ' as Microsoft Solitaire Collection.

ps ... no carrier bags for those of us who are using Internet Explorer as their default Browser.

Agreed, the clue was in the word ' Taskbar ', hadn't appreciated that this symbol was supposed to be a carrier bag

I had to create an account with microsoft with a password in order to download those games, now I have to enter that password just to use my computer. Any ideas how to get rid of it, please?

My laptop has recently died on me so it looks as if I won't have a choice but to have Windows 10 as what I have been looking at all appear to come with it already installed.
Can anyone tell me if there are any problems with the pre-installed version and are there any questions I should be asking before purchasing.

Unless you have essential Windows software, I would ask if you can get a machine without Windows and install Ubuntu instead. Once I retire, I intend ditching Microsoft from my desktop computer and going the Ubuntu route

I would saythat there are no problems with pre-installed Win 10 - it is, after all, only another version of Windows. Win 10 has been out long enough now for pre-installed problems to have been fixed.

Ubuntu is an alternative operating system, Jo. It is free, it looks like Windows (last time I ran it, it was very similar to Windows XP). There's a huge amount of software for pretty much anything you want to do, all free. Open Office will open and write Microsoft Office files. I use a bespoke database package for work, which means I just keep Windows until I retire, also there's a Windows game that I've been trying to complete for several years, but that's it. Unless you have spent a shed load on software for your laptop, there should be little reason to stuck with Windows

Thanks David that was more or less what I was wanting to hear.
Alan, Ubuntu sounds very interesting but would be wasted on me as I don't use my laptop for much other than email/forums etc and the odd bit of online shopping
