Next Tory leader
Have your say. The forum called it correct over Brexit so the loser will be quaking in her shoes

Re: Next Tory leader
I think Leadsom has a better TV presence and is easier to listen to and ultimately would probably make a better PM, but her lack of experience in parliament and the issues over her CV will cast a cloud over her, at least with the liberal left media (mainly the BBC) which would undermine her initially and could possibly weaken the UK negotiating position.
So I have (very) reluctantly voted for May.

Re: Next Tory leader
Mrs May will make a better leader in the short term but Mrs Leadsom should be made the Minister of Brexit to ensure a smoother exit from the EU, it won't work so well if their roles were to be reversed.
Keep smiling, it's good for your well being

If Mrs Leadsom does not get the top job, hopefully she will be appointed Minister of State for Families and Children and perhaps in her spare time can set up a CV writing service

Well one thing for sure we will have a 'woman' running the show so it should all be 'plain sailing' from here on in, as most of you men already know it's the women who can always be relied on to sort things out

Get ready for laws banning toilet seats being up and Footie being banned, lads.
My heart says Andrea, my head says Teresa. I would expect Andrea to play a major role in Brexit negotiations.

Hope it's not Leadsom - it seems she thinks women who are not mothers have no stake in the future, which I find to be a very offensive view

Re: Next Tory leader
She merely said what a lot of childless couples have been told over and over again - "You don't understand, you've not got children" or "You're lucky, you've not got children so you can afford it". They are offensive comments and this time they have come back to bite her on the backside and may well have ruined her aspirations to become PM.
I am amazed that clearly bright and intelligent people are so adept at scoring own goals, first Gove and now Leadsom.

I thought she was saying that being a mother gave her extra experience that would help in her job, it was the press and social media who chose to twist her words, as usual.Gill W wrote:Hope it's not Leadsom - it seems she thinks women who are not mothers have no stake in the future, which I find to be a very offensive view

And by inference you would not have that experience if you did not have children. I think Andrea was naive to allow herself to be drawn into such a sensitive and politically damaging discussion.towny44 wrote:I thought she was saying that being a mother gave her extra experience that would help in her job,

Absolutely - whatever she really meant, a future party leader and Prime Minister should not be so naive and saying things that could be twisted and misinterpreted in such a way.oldbluefox wrote:And by inference you would not have that experience if you did not have children. That really is taking political correctness to extremes Foxy, why is it that nowadays everyone looks for the slightest crack in someones personality to try and undermine and demean them.oldbluefox wrote:And by inference you would not have that experience if you did not have children. I would never stand a chance as a politician because I frequently say things as I initially see them, and would leave myself open for all sorts of pc criticism.

Absolutely. There are two sides to every argument and in politics always somebody out there to trip you up.towny44 wrote:I would never stand a chance as a politician because I frequently say things as I initially see them, and would leave myself open for all sorts of pc criticism.
I actually like Andrea Leadsom but whether she would make a good PM, I'm not quite sure because of her lack of experience.

Re: Next Tory leader
AL was asked what was important to her ... her response was an honest one but the right wing Tory Press ( backing May to the hilt ) tried to undermine her by twisting her comments to suit their agenda.
It demonstrates that AL is naïve certainly but also that Political correctness needs scraping at the first opportunity. Honesty will never be part of our Parliament if this is a typical example of Etonian behaviour.
Boooooo !!
ps ... her apology has been accepted so time to move on.

Reports just out that Andrea Leadsom is to pull out of the leadership race, claiming "the abuse is too great".
Doesn't sound like PM material to me anyway !!

If that is true, I wonder whether TM will be the winner by default, will they drag Gove back in or start the whole process again ?
