Is it properly called "Ukraine" or "The Ukraine" ? You often see the prefix "the" in written reports
While we're on one of my favourite subjects, it's 'hoi polloi', not "the hoi polloi' and "the Baltic", not "the Baltics".
Bet you wish you hadn't asked. Aren't pedants b****y irritating?

Re: Eurovision 2016
I'm busy monitoring the new-ish political editor (or whatever she is) on Sky News, who speaks at glacial speed, as if addressing two year olds, and doesn't pronounce anything with 'ng' on the end. 'Endin', 'considerin', the list is endless. Grrr.qbman1 wrote:I can't complain - I am superintendent of the apostrophe police !!anniec wrote:"Ukraine". You'll have to admit to singing along with Eurovision too, so we can stay on topic and avoid the wrath of King Smurf and the ModPlods !!
