We've just re-signed Theo (I'm fast but can't hit a barn door) Robinson on loan.

...but even Theo is better than that no-hoper Simon Church we had from Reading.
We seem to be a dumping ground for either crap or injury-prone strikers.

Re: Football
I've probably been a tad harsh on Theo. Just checked out his stats and he's done pretty well this season despite not starting many matches recently. His record was better for us than I remembered too.
I can only seem to remember the (many) one-on-one's with keepers that he fluffed and the (numerous) open goals that he missed from less than 10yards. He's still only 24 though, so I suppose some erraticness (is that a word??) should have been expected.
Hopefully, he will find the target regularly...we haven't scored 2 goals in a league match since Dec 8th!

Tomorrow, my brother and I are guests of the company's accountants, who have a box at Town, for the day.
Get to have a look around the stadium too, plus a three-course dinner and lots of beer!

I see that Man Utd are trying to get Ronaldo to Old Trafford. Reports his wage will be about £220,000 per week. Still plenty of money to splash about at the top to buy success.

That sounds just like the ' Theo (I'm fast but can't hit a barn door) Robinson ' that used to run fast but couldn't hit a barn door who played for Watford
All the very best when you play Hull, maybe Theo will score the winning goal and we'll all be happy

I think it moght have something to do with Leeds Utd sueing WY Police over the costs of policing.oldbluefox wrote:I can't fathom that one out. Huddersfield don't have a reputation for dodgy supporters. We all have the headbangers who find self control a bit of a problem but Huddersfield are hardly awash with them to that extent. It makes you wonder what West Yorks police have in mind. Thank goodness football is nothing like it was in the60's and 70's although there are still certain grounds I'd be very careful of wearing my colours. 'Uddersfield is not one of them.
I'm quite law abiding but even I think policing at football games is quite a bit over the top. Walking into the stadium area police are stationed about every 20-30 yds, sometimes in two's, it all seems far too excessive and I suspect that it probably causes extra tension with the more hot headed fans.
I don't think they need such a high profile prescence and even if the poice think they need the numbers it would be far better to keep them in reserve somewhere close but out of sight. But preferably they could try trusting the football fans a bit more, or maybe they could even teach the officers to smile rather than glower at everyone.

Re: Football
Sometimes it is a bit OTT. There are loads of police to see the away supporters out of the stadium at the King Power but you are lucky to see one 50yds away from the stadium.
I remember going to Wigan. I think there were more police there than supporters! The gate that day was about 11000 of which 3000 were City supporters. It seems quite amusing that only an hour before the match we were in the pub with away supporters and there was no sign of trouble so why they needed so many police I know not. I think that year Wigan had complained about the bill for policing their matches. I suppose if trouble is going to kick off they never know where or when or how bad it's going to be but there are some clubs' supporters you never get trouble from.
We went to Old Trafford once and could only get tickets in with the home support. A steward must have spotted 'blue' under our coats and asked us not to jump up and down if we scored! He was more optimistic than we were although your own common sense tells you it's not the best idea in the world (although fans of both sides do mix without trouble at RU matches. Must be a cultural thing).

I can't see why there should be a problem with sitting in with opposing fans...but there only needs to be a tiny minority of idiots to cause problems.
I regularly applaud if an away team scores a good goal against us.....unfortunately that's been quite often this season.

Did you know that until relatively recent AFC Bournemouth was referred to as Boscombe by us locals due to the now defunct Boscombe rail station being next to the football ground

You can sit and stand where you like at a rugby league match with little or no fear of physical or verbal abuse being directed at you.........though you might be the target for some good natured (and usually very funny) banter. Fans of rugby union games mix well together because they are not watching each other, they are instead concentrating on the ball in the constant fear of one of the players kicking it to them.

Re: Football
Just seen that the England rugby match kicks off at 5pm. looks like we'll probably stay in the baox after the footy and watch that too (well the first half at least).
Some very interesting fixtures in the Championship today - particularly concerning the bottom third. Town v Ipswich, P'boro v B'ham, Bristol v Barnsley.
6 pointers all of them!
Hoping too that Wolves get a spanking by Cardiff tomorrow, and Palace and Leics do us a favour by beating Weds and Blackpool. Wouldn't also mind Hull beating Bolton.
It's very tight at the bottom half of the table with only 4 points between Town in 21st (just above the drop zone) and Millwall in 14th place!
The table could look very different in just a couple of games' time....hopefully we'll start going back upwards!

Steve Bruce was "quietly confident" when interviewed by Radio Humberside earlier today. Looking at the cuurent score at Bolton I guess he'll just be "quiet" now.

Seems we have won 2:1

awarding Derby a soft penalty ...

Re: Football
A very disappointing 0-0 against an extremely poor Ipswich side who had one (poor) shot on target all game.
Our strikers are very low on confidence...we missed 2 or 3 very good chances to win the game. Amazed to see that Bolton were 3 up after 8 minutes...we were hoping they would lose.
On the plus side, the hospitality package was excellent. Turns out that our accountants had hired the top hospitality suite in the stadium, which got us a visit from a couple of injured players before the match and the chief executive of the club, and the game's man-of-the-match also came to chat to us after the match.Plus a few visits from the legend that is Andy Booth. Decent meal too, so all-in-all a great day.

Oh, we also had a stadium tour which included the boardroom and the home dressing-room. Found out that players who move from one boot sponsorship deal donate their old supplier's boots (Brand new) to other players who don't have a deal with a boot manufacturer!
