Yes gfw, I'll be following them. Doubt I'll be up at the crack of dawn or whenever they are due to be televised though. Athletics, gymnastics, cycling..................... looking forward to them.

Andy Murray to carry the GB flag at the opening ceremony.
Hmmmmm, would this be the same Andy Murray who voted for independence away from UK? Do I sense a hint of hypocrisy here? What happened to other sportsmen and women who are totally dedicated to GB/UK and are celebrities in their own rite? Not bothered which country they come from within the union but they should at least be fully committed to it.

You mean that you have not been like the Americans and had the timings altered to suit your viewing preferences :sarcasm:

Apparently our Wiggo was asked to carry the flag but declined in favour of someone more worthy

The Lady C will be watching avidly and, to get her in the mood, she's been watching the "box set" of the 2012 Olympics.

Me, I've got some wet paint that needs watching while it dries...

The beauty of Catch up tv, I can record the events I definitely want to see like sailing, rowing, track and field, table tennis and badminton. Anything else I can take my chance with the catch up list and avoid the ones that don't interest me like dressage, rifle shooting etc.

The only problem with that is, if they treat it in the same way as the tennis (and, in the past, F1) they get part-way through then change channel so you end up recording something you didn't want and don't get what you wanted.

we will watch bits of it but not all
on a slightly different line, is it only me that finds it obscene that Brazil can spend millions on stadiums and the like, in full view of people in real poverty, living in cardboard houses, no water etc and also a country with appalling human rights violations as well, I wonder who they bribed/kidnapped/blackmailed to get the games

Obscene and dangerous, DK - look what happened to Greece's economy. Brazil was supposed to be one of the forerunners in emerging market economies, but it has slipped badly - the needless expense of this event will only make it worse. Then they'll be even less able to relieve the suffering of the inhabitants of the favelas.

Its all down to these power mad bodies such as FIFA and the IOC having little thought other than for their grandiose event.
But, maybe things are a changing, there doesn't appear to be as many takers for future games, and current wisdom is suggesting it will have to be countries not cities who will bid in the future.

There's a perfectly good, if now dilapidated suite of facilities in the country where the whole thing kicked off. Goodness knows their economy could do with a four-yearly boost....

Theres always BBC iPlayer to fall back on Alan you can usually pick which event you want to watch and you don't get all the hype in between.

I will drink to that.

We could then take the opportunity to get rid of the nonsense medals, like synchronised knitting and the like.

and exactly what is solo synchronised swimming?

And in group synchronised swimming, if one of them gets into trouble and starts drowning, do the rest have to follow suit? :sarcasm:

Absolutely agree.

The costs could be apportioned out by the size of the squad a country chooses to send and Greece get a free entry.

Having experienced London 2012 it is something that will live with me for ever and I would not want to deny that to other nations, and future generations.

Whether the cost should be apportioned between the "Olympic family" is another question.
