It will be bah humbug in the Kershaw household this year.

First year not on a cruise for about 6 years.

Family are going skiing in Scotland defo not my cup of tea.

No cruises we fancied got back in time for our World cruise starting 2 Jan. I did try to persuade p & O that no one would notice if Oriana came back a day early but to no avail. I can't believe they didn't take my loyalty into consideration.

I have bought most of the presents. We will have our family Christmas the weekend before at our sons with a tree and decorations but on the actual day we will keep ourselves busy and start the packing for our adventure.

We will have sprouts as we both like them but that will probably be the only traditional part of the meal and it will be a tree and decoration free zone.

We'll this year..there WAS only going to be 7 of us on Christmas Day for lunch... ( 17 for Christmas Tea!! ) but...now there will be another 6 ....my daughter, her hubby, their two children....and her in laws!! 13..now..


About 25 for a buffet lunch on Christmas Eve...and about 20 for lunch .... meat with home made chips and homemade coleslaw..on Boxing Day.
Chip pans only come out once or twice a year..Boxing Day and sometimes Good Friday. I have 3 and use beef dripping..not oil.
Family tradition ..been going on for about 60 years.

I remember the first Boxing Day lunch I had at Cheryl's mum's when we were courting, I always went out for a run on Boxing Day (jogging hadn't been invented then) and I decided to alter my course to finish at her house. I only called in for a few minutes but they persuaded me to stop for lunch, I was gobsmacked when I saw the Chip pan come out but my future mother in law said we always have chips and cold meat on Boxing Day. I have never been a fan of cold turkey or beef so they opened a tin of corned beef for me.
So after a large plate of chips and a full tin of corned beef washed down with 3 pints of f/inlaws home brew it was time to set off home, the distance between our houses was just over 7 miles so as you can imagine I walked most of the way back.
Our mum always did a roast pork dinner on Boxing day and it was usually late afternoon when we sat down, I walked in just as mum was putting the dinner out and I didn't have the heart (or the courage) to tell her I was not that hungry. Every time I see Dawn French doing the Vicar of Dibley sketch it reminds me of that day and we often have a laugh about it at Christmas.

My youngest son and his family are at his in laws this year for lunch, and his mil makes a good Christmas lunch, but he still wants me to plate him up a Christmas lunch to take home to,eat for his supper...after his Christmas Tea!!
He is a big lad...6ft 6ins with hollow legs....!!!
