Car key interference
Went to start the car yesterday morning only to find the key wouldn't unlock the door. I could open the door manually and start the engine but in doing so it set the car alarm off.
The AA arrived within the hour and promptly diagnosed the problem as signal interference between key and car. The AA asked me if any of our neighbours had a new door alarm fitted within the past couple of days which actually was the case. It's times like this when you appriciate having good neighbours especially when you have to ask them to disconnect their door bell....This having been done we quickly established the problem didn't lie there.
Anyhow's, not wishing to write a manual on this topic l will cut to where the problem lay. There was some building work going on over the road which required a crane, this crane was remote controlled and it was the signal from the operating of the crane that was blocking the signal to my car.
I know.... l couldn't believe it either but apparently the AA chappie said it's not an uncommon problem.
Thankfully they finish with the need for the crane today.

Re: Car key interference
This happened to our daughter a couple of years ago. From memory she was visiting some friends near Basingstoke I think, she was living in Reading at the time. When she came to leave the house she couldn't get into the car with the zapper, had to use the key. Then when she did get in it wouldn't start. Then she became aware of several people standing around by cars, chatting to each other - no-one could start their car. It turned out to be something like the incident Onelife wrote about - some work going on with a new development or something. In the end our daughter's partner had to turn up to collect her in his car - being careful to keep the engine running while he did so. I think it was resolved the next day - not sure what happened. There were several AA men there that night too apparently.

Hello Meg...l don't think that could happen but l wouldn't be surprised if some technical hacker is working on that one as we speak.Meg 50 wrote:could the crane have unlocked your car too?

Re: Car key interference
I had a problem with my house alarm when I purchased a tv signal transmitter so I could watch the footy in my man cave. The transmitter set my house alarm off every time I switched it on but it was easily remedied by changing the frequency that my house alarm was using. Your neighbour could possibly have done the same with their door switch just by changing the position of the jump pins in the unit.
Never park your car under electricity pylons as they can interfere with the electronics in the engine management system, a work colleague of mine returned his motor home three times before the technicians found out he was parking it under pylons.
