Did you see ' Countryfile ' Sunday evening ... somebody has come up with a way of getting rid of bracken by processing it into ' logs '. Could be full of resin me thinks.

ps .... logs should burn clean but Firelighters and newspaper presumably do not

I saw it too. A great idea.
Before you go running into the woods to collect bracken chaps be aware that the fronds are carcinogenic and when they are dry will fly through the air like dust that you will breath in.

Firelighters are a no no as the chemicals in them can damage the flue, I only use paper that is plain matt and not the glossy paper that comes in junk mail as it creates too much smoke and can often self extinguish itself.

If you eat a lot of oranges or use lemons in cooking and drinks dont throw the peel, I put it in the bottom of the log basket near the stove and as it dries it gives off a lovely citric aroma, when it is completely dry it will burn better than any firelighter with a more pleasant smell.

I used to tell my grandkids I've got a black belt in origami so they thought it was a martial art but even the six year old is far from impressed now.

Yoga and my arthritis don't get on well together so the least said about that the better Stephen.

Just spent a few days in sunny Suffolk and everywhere we went there were signs advertising seasoned Oak & Ash £50 a large builders bag.

'Tis the season for log fires and roasting chestnuts Cubie, don't forget to save the shells as they burn lovely with a bit of dried orange peel.
Sorry I couldn't resist that .

We've had a log/coal fire every night for the past couple of weeks. You can't beat it
