That'll liven things up.

Re: Current Affairs
A slight aside but if it is a constitutional necessity that Theresa May reveals her negotiating strategy for discussion in, and agreement by, parliament, why was it not a similar requirement for Call Me Dave to do so before he went to try to negotiate a better deal with the EU ahead of the referendum?
If he had done so perhaps he would have been mandated to try for something better than the pathetic terms he got and the referendum result would have been different.
To my mind the referendum was there for the winning by the Remainers and they threw it away.

Re: Current Affairs
Switching to the US for a moment. It is claimed that the FBI have discovered 650,000 of Hillary Clinton's emails , examined them and decided she did not commit any crime. The Trump camp are sceptical with the speed with which they have reached that decision.
I'm more baffled how she could write them. If she wrote 100 every working day (let's say 260 days a year, all the weekdays, we won't allow her any holiday) that would take her 25 years! Really?

Re: Current Affairs
And who keeps that amount of old emails anyway. Perhaps they were all emails to bed linen companies coz it sounds like one big cover up to me.

Re: Current Affairs
Purely out of national interest you understand
. I will probably have the old iPad on the bedside cabinet tonight as I always wake up in the early hours so will want to know who's got in the hot seat. I'll then be straight onto Amazon looking for a nuclear shelter, to beat the rush
I think Clinton will clinch it myself, mainly because she's an old hand that's been round the circuit before with hubby. But, stranger things have happened
The money these election campaigns cost is obscene. I read that Obamas cost just over a billion, so what it cost these two clowns is anyone's guess. And who pays it, do the candidates, or is it government funded?
A bit different from our elections, a couple of online coupons normally covers it

Re: Current Affairs
I believe, and I could be totally wrong about this, that the candidates have to "self fund", by which I mean that it is up to them to secure sufficient funding.Stephen wrote:And who pays it, do the candidates, or is it government funded?
This has always been one of the big criticisms of the US system that in effect only those with considerable wealth, or wealthy connections, can ever become President. I think the same is also tru for the "lower" levels of Government but, obviously, not at the same extent.
It said on the news last night that the final TV advert for DT cost $4million!

Hi Stephen....whether it be Clinton or Trump the one thing you can be sure about is that it he/she will have got there with help from the corruptible.....not unlike our political donors who end up with peerages.

Re: Current Affairs
Now I'm here in Florida, I'm told the Trump has used his own money but Clinton is using public money, but bother get lots of donations... apparently Clinton received a sizeable donation from Saudi Arabia which, bearing their oppressive treatment of women and Clinton"s opposite view, Trump has seized on.

Look on the bright side. If Trump wins the dollar will plummet. And if Clinton wins the dollar will plummet. Win win.

I'm no fan of either of them Merv, but I think there's more chance of me winning the lottery than Trump getting elected.

Two of the commentators in the abcNews studio analysing the election results are actually comedians...
