I am a plonker . . . .

Unread post by gfwgfw »

Greetings from rural Darzet

After lots of consideration I decided to purchase an "all singing all dancing" desk top computer

All went well

£200 of RSP, next day delivery

My new 'puter arrived at requested time, carefully unpacked my new toy

Carefully read easy to read "set up" assist and quickly had it working

Then I searched for the important CD/DVD slot only to conclude unbelievable there wasn't one

Now in a quandary, what should I do

You're right gfw, you are a plonker!
All's not lost. If you're sure it doesn't have a DVD drive you can get external DVD drives or alternative use a USB flash drive. Neither are big money nowadays.

It's not that difficult to fit a CD/DVD drive to a desktop as there should be spare tray ports that accommodate them.

CD/DVD drives are going out of fashion because flash drives and external storage are so much more flexible, if you really need one and don't feel confident enough to fit one a local P.C. store can fit it for you.

If you don't really need a CD/DVD drive your computer will perform better without it.

Has it got a floppy disc drive ????? (sorry gfw)

Don't put yourselves down, dear Graham and Keith.

That's our job :sarcasm:

As OBF says, external drives are cheap these days - have a swatch at this one. Just make sure you have at least one USB port on your new machine!

You could of course try returning it for another PC with a DVD drive explaining your mistake Graham.

My new toy is meeting all my requirements - big screen - very fast - loads of storage - lots of ms apps

Well pleased with 10

No problem as I will purchase a DVD player
