Have you stayed in a famous hotel from film or books?

Unread post by Dark Knight »

I am off to Ireland on business soon and will be staying in the Europa hotel in Belfast, this hotel features quite a lot in Jack Higgins novels
so my question is: Have you stayed in a hotel made famous either ,on screen or in literature

ps The Europa was once the most bombed hotel in Europe

Seriously though, stayed at the Jamaica Inn on Bodmin moor made famous by Daphne du Maurier - was the normal wet day and evening, no ghosts though!

We have stayed in Raffles, Singapore and what a wonderful hotel it is.
You can sip your Singapore Sling whilst reminiscing on how grand it was in years gone by.

I had a walking holiday on Dartmoor and stayed in a country house hotel called Moorlands....It was where Agatha Christie wrote her first book, The Mysterious Affair at Styles, in 1916. Her desk is still there (so they say) and you can sit at it.

We have stayed at the Sheraton Krabi Resort, where the movie Houseful was filmed. Also Disney's Grand Floridian Resort and Spa in Orlando where Hulk Hogan filmed Thunder at Paradise regularly, and the Atlantis Resort at Paradise Island where many movies have been shot and the World's Strongest Man was frequently filmed.

I've stayed for one night at the Savoy in London (before the refit). This was with my daughter on a one-night special deal and we ate in the Grill restaurant. I didn't see any famous people but I know lots have stayed there. It was lovely, especially breakfast in the restaurant looking over the Thames. Lots of pictures of film stars and actors in the bars. We only had a standard double bedroom but it was lovely, especially the bathroom which was huge.

I have been to Butlin's loads of times and once entered the Worst Singer in the World Competition....Anyway I 'performed' on the same stage that Des O' Connor once entertained on when he was a Redcoat.

Does that count....

I've not stayed anywhere either but we looked around the house and plantation that appeared in The Patriot (Mel Gibson) (not to mention my own appearances on radio, TV and film !!)

Stayed at the Sun Inn in Coniston. Donald Campbell's HQ for his water speed record attempt. The BBC used it for their dramatisation of that event, called Across the Lake, Anthony Hopkins as Mr Campbell himself.

Used to work at a hotel and we had Meg Ryan and Robert Downey Jr staying with us whilst filiming locally. It was while Meg Ryan was married to Denis Quaid and he used to ring and ask to speak to Alberta Bopp, which was the pseudonym she used. I have a signed photo from her.

I've stayed in the hotel where Agatha Christie was found when she ran away and hid from her husband all those years ago.

Great food, close to the local interests - and just a decent uphill walk to Betty's tea rooms!

I know the Hotel you mention :)

Another one in Harrogate we have stayed in on numerous occasions was the scene of a TV recordng of Frost with David Jason. We were staying there during an Exhibition at the Royal Hall. We were two of many!

Following a hard days work, the men obviously needed a few drinks!! On one morning, one of the guys (a little worse for wear) went down for breakfast (this is in September), to find the whole Hotel decorated with Christmas Trees and all manner of Christmas Decorations, even the flower baskets outside had also been adorned with Christmas flowers. I cannot put on here what he said :o

Needless to say we all stayed to watch the recording. :D
